Taking a flat map and drawing a straight line between two points on the map is creating a rhumb line. Taking a globe, standing at one point on the globe and determining which direction I need to start out in to land at my destination, requires calculations based on the ‘Great Circle’. If you think that the results are probably similar, regardless of which method you use, well it depends on where in the world you’re standing and where you want to go.

However, these theories seem rather mere speculations, as the authors have very few sources and bibliography, and although the book presents these hypotheses as a consistent and solid all, would have been better if it had more opinions from the experts, which the authors are not. The Hiram Key is yet another example of "Von Daaniken’s syndrome" where wishful thinking and pre-determined conclusions replace facts in the presentation of opinion masquarading as theory. It is an entertaining read, and certainly presents some interesting ideas. But its presentation of opinion as fact does both Freemasonry and the academic study of masonic history a disservice.
