Like completely out there fiction and sci fi, really unusual theatricality is not something I can always get on board with, but it was all so ground breaking, that’s it’s just an intrinsic part of female British 80s music. The book is all very positive, to the degree that if this had been an approved-by-the-artist type of publication (it isn’t), you wouldn’t be surprised, so I would argue that Doyle likes his subject matter perhaps a little too much and he could use a little more critical distance.

The hit Netflix show Stranger Things, a love letter to eighties cinema and its cultural dayglo made heavy use of Running Up That Hill and introduced her to a new and vaster audience than she has ever been subjected to. Seventeen years later, Kate went back to number one on the world charts courtesy of 'Stranger Things' on Netflix where her 80's hit "Running up that Hill" was on heavy rotation as the driving force behind one of the show's characters. There’s something quite apt about Bush’s voice summoning the hands of pilled-up hedonists at warehouse parties and a kind of payback too. Read more about the condition New: A new, unread, unused book in perfect condition with no missing or damaged pages.visions" does seem like it's going to be a very inventive radical new biography format, which it isn't really, but it still makes for an interesting read! As much a ground zero moment for pop as the Pistols were for the denim brigade, Wuthering Heights, a chart hit not in 4/4 time, sang about an eighteenth-century troubadour should have been an anomaly not a blueprint for a career that has now stretched out over nearly five decades and shows no sign of ending. Featuring details from the author's one-on-one conversations with Kateas well as vignettes of her key songs, albums, videos, and concertsthis artful, candid, and often brutally funny portrait introduces a refreshingly real Kate Bush. This is the first time, in a very long time, that I've had a palpable feeling of sadness at finishing a non-fiction book. She has especially sweet things to say about Noel Fielding's appearance in Let's Dance For Comic Relief, in which he danced to Wuthering Heights dressed as Kate in the "red dress" video, and using the iconic choreography.

This book has all the stories behind the iconic tracks such as 'Wuthering Heights' and 'Babooshka,' as well as Bush's collaborations with artists as varied as Elton John, David Gilmour, Prince and the Trio Bulgarka. It wouldn’t be the last time her music would be used on something with its pulse on pop culture, although that particular coupling was still a few decades away.Drawing on his 2005 interview with Bush for Mojo magazine and conversations with her friends and family, Doyle contends that her exacting creative vision—“She can see and hear exactly what she wants to get,” according to Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour—classes Bush as more “visual auteur” than celebrity musician. The Big Sky is a vibrant and comprehensive re-examination of Kate Bush and her many creative landmarks.
