You don’t even notice the new full-length DNA Loft part of the Ghost 13 when running and the midsole is co-moulded so there are no seams or gaps where the two foams meet. The Ghost 13 rides medium soft, just like the Ghost 12 and the Ghost 11 and most of the other Ghost versions. The medium-soft ride results in an incredibly versatile shoe which all daily trainers strive to achieve. There are three wide flex grooves which span the entire width of the shoe underneath the forefoot which results in a very flexible Ghost 13. This ended up being the wrong decision. I could feel my feet swimming in the roomy upper of Ghost 13.

The upper of the Ghost 13 is where Brooks has every other brand beat. It has a new soft engineered mesh which they are calling Air Mesh.I hate the feeling of wearing clown shoes so I had to exchange them for a half size smaller. Overall the fit is much more roomy than previous versions of the Ghost. All are in agreement that the flex grooves of the Brooks Ghost 13 provides “flexibility in perfect areas to match foot motions.” This allows for smoother foot movement and promotes the natural bend of the foot.

From many years of running in versions of the Ghost, we know that Brooks’ most popular neutral running shoe has consistently delivered, providing reliable comfort and performance to a wide range of runners, from beginner to elite. The latest version, the Ghost 15 has been subtly updated, but continues to deliver!

OUR VERDICT The Brooks Ghost 13 is a comfortable neutral daily trainer with stable and smooth ride transitions. Its strength is its plush upper which has been updated with Air Mesh for an even more breathable and cooler ride. A little bit of extra padding lines the heel collar for a plusher step-in feel, and a soft tongue is comfortable on top of your foot. Add to that a cushioned (and removable) insole, and the Ghost 13 feels plush all around. The toe box allows more than enough room for natural toe splay. Some experts even found that their “toes slide around.” The mesh, which Brooks calls Air Mesh, is smooth and pliable with some printed overlays throughout the midfoot, and it has a touch of stretch to help accommodate different foot shapes. One Fleet Feet reviewer who has a wider forefoot says the Ghost fit him well. Caterpillar Crash Pad is a segmented crash pad that flexes with the foot, offering customized cushioning and stability for a smooth heel-to-toe transition.

If you have narrow feet, avoid the Ghost 13. Instead, you can consider the Brooks Levitate 4 which has a snugger fit.
