Description

The Amulet was originally made by an Asian shaman, three thousand years ago, and was given to a local princess as a gift. A wonderful and thrilling urban fantasy with strong elements of eastern mythology and the supernatural.

I read this one as a book group read – it came up during a discussion that none of us had properly read a graphic novel before and we wanted to give it a try. I also enjoyed the speed at which I could read the book – it took me a couple of days instead of the week or so the original book by Jonathan Stroud would have done – and yet I don’t feel like I missed out on any story. Bisa lihat mukanya pula :p Cocok sih, bengalnya dapet, chemistrynya dengan Nathaniel pun terlihat jelas. I really like the Bartimeus character but i found the others to be very stereotypical and had no depth whatsoever - the mother character was laughable.

Nathaniel meets by chance some members of the Resistance, yet fails to infiltrate the group and furthermore has his scrying glass stolen. It would have been easier to absorb, would have saved me from moving my eyes, and would have kept the book flowing smoothly.

Despite this general feeling that The Amulet doesn’t take itself too seriously, there are a lot of serious topics in this one- if you want to read it that way. Failing to kill Nathaniel too, Lovelace implicated him to the deaths of the Underwoods, and set out to Hedlam hall to use the amulet in his plans. Set in modern-day London controlled by magicians, this hilarious, bestselling thriller will enthral readers of all ages. The graphic novel adaptation of the first volume in the best-selling Bartimaeus sequence makes the series more accessible to readers without taking away any of the wit and magic. The combination of the magic, world-buildings, and mystery plot made for one of the most enjoyable things I’ve read in ages. This book had some ground to make up to begin with because after checking its copyright date, all I could think was, "It's a book.

That first part of the book was developed perfectly and I really felt for the boy- for most of the novel I quite worried about him even if I knew that it was highly unlikely for the protagonist to get killed. I found Nathanial’s characters and nativity annoying at times, but considering his age that is nothing to be frown about.Of all the odd things to find in a modern, present-set, book, the author goes in hard on who, Disraeli or Gladstone, was the greater Prime Minister. Sama priča je u suštini jednostavna ali je prošarana sa puno humora (naročito sarkastičnog) što čini sve zabavnijim tako da knjiga baš brzo proleti. This is a FANTASTIC book, one that suggests that Harry Potter books don't have to be just a phenomenon, but could be a genre as well, as long as there are people out there who have the capacity, as Jonathan Stroud does, to create new worlds.

Bartimaeus, expecting a ridiculous and simple charge from Nathaniel, such as levitating an object, is instead charged with the highly dangerous, unexpected command to steal the Amulet of Samarkand from Simon Lovelace. In turn, Nathaniel expresses a love and loyalty to her that is otherwise all but absent from his life. not my faveourite art style, the footnotes were just too much info which was most of the times already obvious from the pictures .

In any case, I tell you this so you can evaluate my reaction to this graphic version of "The Amulet of Samarkand". The illustrations are of a truly remarkable beauty, beautiful colour images on high quality glossy paper. In May 1999, Stroud published his first children's novel, Buried Fire, which was the first of a line of fantasy/mythology children's books.
