So I about lost it when I discovered this stand-alone tale among the new graphic novels at our local library. We were very excited to read a brand new story, and even more excited to see that it has a steampunk/apocalyptic-kind of vibe. They're based in convenient locations including supermarkets, newsagents and train stations. Plus they're often open late and on Sundays.

Ever since I heard about it, read the blurb and was like, horses and aliens?? This phrase usually has a slightly negative connotation, suggesting that a broader set of skills or talents is more desirable. But we all know that’s not always the case. Is it? Should It Be Hyphenated? Howdy partner! This cowboy is keepin' a watchful eye over his farm and isn't afraid to hogtie any varmint who tries to mess with his herd. His lasso is fast so step lively! Take turns trying to sneak his animals across the fence - but don't get caught! His magical, spinning lasso will stop eventually to rope you in! Whoever rounds up the most animals at the end is the winner!

I could quibble at some of the plot points, but eh? How can you quibble in the face of adorable robots, a robot pony, tough wild men who just want to pet alpacas, and freaky aliens? Oh and all the cool bubble-bite landscapes! Unlike Ghostopolis, this is a darker story, even though it's intended for a younger audience. The post-apocalyptic landscape was creepy, and the aliens (called pipers because of the pi-pi-pi noise they make) were downright horrifying. I'm kind of glad this one was done with a monochromatic scheme, because full colour might've given me nightmares.

Take for example, Lee Sin. This guy has been nerfed since he was released pretty much, yet he is still played in the professional scene. This speaks volumes about Lee Sin’s unique design and strength. I received a free copy of this graphic novel from Amulet/Abrams & Chronicle in exchange for an honest review. In a world gone mad . . . it takes a girl and her robot horse to save the population from destruction. Scary villains, one brave heroine, AND robots!
