GDT even provides a guided tour of his famous Bleak House via photography and his own written descriptions, detailing the two-house shrine/museum to his staggering collection of artwork, sculptures, busts, books, comics and paintings on all things horror, fantasy, and weirdly speculative across the mediums of cinema, literature, and art. It looks like an amazing place to get lost in, and also boasts various rooms for his creative outlets, be they writing or illustrating. In addition to reading excerpts from his journals about each film he’s made, we also get to explore his house and see what inspires his muse. Then, towards the end of the book, we get to see a bit of his Unfinished Projects collection, where he houses up and coming titles that have yet to be completed. I don’t want to say too much more about this book, because you simply have to read through it to understand why I’m gushing about it. If you're coming to Coles by car, why not take advantage of the 2 hours free parking at Sainsbury's Pioneer Square - just follow the signs for Pioneer Square as you drive into Bicester and park in the multi-storey car park above the supermarket. Come down the travelators, exit Sainsbury's, turn right and follow the pedestrianised walkway to Crown Walk and turn right - and Coles will be right in front of you. You don't need to shop in Sainsbury's to get the free parking! Where to Find Us Throughout the series the tone shifts, but it always keeps one foot in Del Toro’s filmography; the dark humour of the Hellboy films is present in makeover nightmare The Outside, where Stacey (a brilliantly awkward Kate Micucci) plays an amateur taxidermist longing to fit in with her glamorous colleagues at the bank. Despite her husband’s (Martin Starr) protestations, she cannot resist the lure of Alo Glo, sold on television infomercials by a deliciously camp Dan Stevens. It’s a classic tale of “be careful what you wish for” done with all the panache you would expect of Del Toro and director Amirpour. Then, there are the excerpts from the notebooks. Inside them, the Reader sees sketches, random thoughts, production ideas, and fascinating tidbits that are consulted during the creation process of formal productions. Honestly, I was lost a number of times because del Toro will have thoughts about multiple projects at once. So, comments about “Hellboy” may also have ideas for “Pan’s Labyrinth” folded in among them. Even so, it was intriguing to see how stray considerations solidified into a fully realized project.

Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities: Season 1". Metacritic. Fandom, Inc. Retrieved May 29, 2023. Cast: Rupert Grint, [22] Ismael Cruz Córdova, DJ Qualls, Nia Vardalos, Tenika Davis, Gaby Moreno [15] [23]Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this hefty compendium which chronicles his career from Cronos up until Pacific Rim. I loved the boundless enthusiasm with which GDT talks about everything from his creative drive to life in general, which he does in a very down-to-earth manner, peppered with humour, humility, and philosophical nuggets on his creative beliefs and the oft-recurring themes which run through his movies.

Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities is now streaming on Netflix. Two new episodes will drop each day until Oct. 28.

Cabinet of Curiosities: “A cabinet of curiosities was an encyclopedic collection in Renaissance Europe of types of objects whose categorial boundaries were yet to be defined.” (Wikipedia) I recommend starting with this book, especially if you are only familiar with Del Toro’s films. This book isn’t quite an autobiography, but it does go into great detail about the director’s inspirations for his monster movies and where he draws parallels among many genres. This book includes diary entries and illustrations for the following del Toro movies, both green lit and not: Roland knew how dangerous the possessed body of Dottie had become, but that wasn’t enough for him to run away from the danger. In fact, the way he says her name with longing and sadness only suggests further he had known Dottie for a long time. What I love about horror is it brings a world to you,” del Toro added in the Netflix interview. “And horror is a shrine to imperfection and tells you it’s okay to be a monster. We are all monsters at the end of the day. Can we live with that?”Kate Micucci ( The Little Hours, Mom) and Martin Starr (Silicon Valley, Party Down) lead an episode written by Haley Z. Boston ( Brand New Cherry Flavor) based on a short story by comic book author Emily Carroll, and directed by Ana Lily Amirpour (A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon; The Bad Batch) Netflix‘s four-night horror event has begun. Guillermo del Toro‘s Cabinet of Curiosities, an anthology series, tells a different horrifying tale in every episode. But is Cabinet of Curiosities based on a book? Here’s everything to know about the inspirations behind del Toro’s latest spooky project. Essie Davis as Nancy Bradley in ‘Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities’ | Netflix What is ‘Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities’? There are few safer bets than being a Guillermo del Toro fan. Whether he’s breathing life into a wooden puppet, having Sally Hawkins fall in love with a fish, or defending Martin Scorsese online, he is a seemingly endless source of delight. In the run-up to Halloween, he continues to bear fruit with his Cabinet of Curiosities (Netflix), an eight-part series that is as elegant as it is grotesque. While it is assumed that in any anthology series there will be hits and misses, nothing in this cabinet is worth discarding. What was it like getting to the heart of your character for this one? Because we've seen you play characters with odder sensibilities, but there's something that feels very different about this in comparison to the past.
