Description

fina(pl: finawu) a member of the fina kafo; a prefix for a member of the fina kafo, similar to the English ‘Mr.’ or ‘Ms.’ There is a substantial learning curve to the book as the author refrains from explaining the many foreign terms inherent to Kaigen and its surrounding cultures. There is a glossary for those who wish to understand as much as possible–I count myself among this group–but it is also possible to get a sense of how things work via context clues. I do recommend taking the extra time to explore the glossary as it provides a strong foundation to why certain things happen the way they do. Wang asks the reader to give a little extra effort get the most out of the story, and it feels like an achievement once you understand the slang terms for certain relatives, the various types of elemental powers, the religious customs, and many other nuances. All of this adds up to a rich, deep, and fully-realized world that is a joy to explore. I may have had fun ( so much fun!) working on my various spin-offs this year, even nearly finishing some, but fun doesn’t constitute a cohesive universe. Between the size of Theonite’s cast, the breadth of its world, and the complexity of some of its content, I’m just not ready to pull it all together. Not at my current skill level. And continuously trying to spin-off from a story that itself isn’t working is not a good strategy. So, even though this breaks my heart…

Ranga a country on the continent of Namindugu, a former province of the Kaigenese Empire, the current center of the Ranganese Union, home to most of Duna’s fonyakalu. Sokolokalothe fourth month of the twelve-month Dunian calendar, named for Queen Sokolo Wagadu, the second queen of Yamma (roughly coincides with Earth’s October). Yamma a country occupying the central and northwestern part of the continent of Kelendugu, populated mainly by tajakalu. It’s perfect for those who like a lot of heart and action in their fantasy. I found out that ML Wang works at a martial arts school and it really shows in the writing. The characters and maximized potential of their powers were so investing. The battles scenes are some of the most realized and vivid (and brutal) that I have ever read. I AM SO IN LOVE. The potential of water-based elemental powers wasn’t wasted since we already get so little of it. Or at least not in the feeling and detail that ML Wang does while incorporating sociocultural context and practical applications into it. Ryuhon Falleya the oldest Kaigenese denomination of Falleya, native to Takayubi, Shirojima, based in the idea that all life originates from the ocean, defined by a belief that Nagi and Nami are the truest form of the two founding gods of the world.

RSS FEEDS

In the meantime, I’ve been plugging away at several other projects that resonate better with my current muse. flea Yammaninke word said when presenting something to someone, similar to English ‘here’ (i. e. ‘here it is’ or ‘here you go’).

Kudazwe a Dunian continent divided between two nations —the independent country of Kudazwe and Kaigenese Kudazwe, belonging to the Kaigenese Empire. Anyways as someone that wants to eventually write books I am in no means pushing you. I just wanted you to know that there are many many many people that look forward to a sequel, whenever you are ready 😉 Nadamui a town on one of the farthest southern islands of Shirojima, meaning ‘Hill of Tears’ in the local dialect. The Sword of Kaigenis not a feel-good story with clear antagonists, pure heroes, and easy answers.Instead, it explores the complexities of war – how the individual has to reconcile the flaws in their own culture with still being a part of it, how loss affects communities, families, and individuals. On a personal level, The Sword of Kaigenis about taking responsibility for your own life, facing regret, and surmounting tragedy. It takes a while to understand what this story is about as it's set in a large, complex world and often I felt that we were going to follow those threads into some larger, world-threatening plot. But really this is a story concerned with the Matsuda family and the young woman who marries into it.
