A note about the writing style: Chris writes the way he talks. This makes sense since he's spent the last decade writing scripts, not books. When you are reading you'll hear the entire thing as though he's narrating it. I didn't mind this, although some areas of the books read like a video script, and could use some polish. He also writes about Japanese culture, different places, people, natural disasters, and it wouldn't be Chris Broad if he didn't bring up food. He could easily start a side career as a food critic.

Journey Across Japan: The Lost Islands". Abroad in Japan. Archived from the original on 3 June 2021 . Retrieved 29 May 2021.Disclaimer: I'm a long time Chris fan, have been watching his videos since the 1st Journey Across Japan. What I mean is that I do not need an audiobook to be able to imagine him narrating all of this and I'm familiar with a lot of the moments shared in this book.

Broad studied English and business at the University of Kent from 2009 to 2012. While attending the university, he developed interests in film making and Japanese culture. After graduating, Broad worked a number of jobs, including a porter role at Leeds Castle and an office job at an energy company. [6] After learning of and applying to the JET Programme, Broad moved to the city of Sakata in Yamagata Prefecture in 2012 while creating videos about his life and experiences in Japan. [7] He left the programme after three years and moved to Sendai [8] to advance his career as a full time YouTuber. Journey Across Japan". Tokyo Creative. 2018. Apart from that, I thoroughly enjoyed. So yes, I recommend. I’ve consumed Broad’s content since the early days, the earliest video I remember watching was the tadashii fukku no tskaikata book review episode. For 10+ years I’ve been watching his videos, listening to his podcast and now I get to enjoy his content in text format. Broad only now needs to create a video game to create a full suite of media to appreciate. a b Fujita, Hana (23 November 2020). "British YouTuber Chris Broad spotlights resilient locals in Japan in wake of 2011 tsunami". Mainichi Shimbun. Sendai. Archived from the original on 30 November 2020 . Retrieved 3 December 2020.I've been following Chris's Abroad in Japan Youtube channel for years. I've enjoyed watching the channel grow from simple videos of him teaching English swearwords to Japanese people, to full on professional documentaries about Fukushima. I enjoyed traveling along with his every word, his personal triumphs, and his frequent insecurities about what’s next, while waiting right there with him to find out what’s coming around the corner. Will it be good? Will it bring something unexpected?
