Most gaming phones have gaming-dedicated modes, which mutes notification and calls and dedicates all a phone's power to the game at hand, and Xiaomi has Shark Space. On the right side of the phone, in addition to a power and fingerprint scanner button, are two sliders. These release the physical left and right triggers, which rise a few millimetres when unlatched. And not only are you getting excellent gaming capabilities with these models, but they could even rival some of the best camera phones to date.

Black Shark 5 Pro Gaming Phone

Sure, it's nothing like Material You on the Pixel 6 Pro, but Xiaomi's vast array of theming and customizability options more than makes up for it. In use this means that colors display slightly less punch, and contrast is a little worse – although, admittedly, the difference is minor. You’ll only really notice the differences if comparing the various handsets side-by-side, and we found the display fine for its purposes. Not only do the power and display lend themselves toward high-end gaming potential, but both of the models also come with dedicated trigger buttons. We did have a little trouble with the autofocus, especially on the macro mode – which, on occasion, seemed dead-set against actually focusing on subjects; but a shot reset usually fixed this. The new model sports a more understated, less “game-centric” design, as well as a better main camera, an improved macro camera and cleaner software – although there are some notable and curious downgrades, too, such as the 5 Pro’s use of an OLED display over the 4 Pro’s Super AMOLED and better range of storage and RAM options.

For the front-facing camera, both models utilise a 16MP wide lens, which should be excellent for video calls or even streaming. Camera-wise, the gaming device features a 108MP main camera, alongside a 13MP ultrawide and a 5MP macro lens. While upfront is a 16MP selfie camera. The phone has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner for biometric authentication. English, German, Italian, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Arabic, Chinese etc., more than 40 languages

You get an improved gaming phone with a nice mix of features, but the price isn't as sweet as the last model.

If you want zero trade-offs, the ASUS ROG Phone 6 Pro can give you the latest and greatest components at a premium. ASUS did a phenomenal job with the ROG Phone 6, breaking the norms by incorporating an IPX4 splash-proof rating. The ROG device is pricey, but absolutely worth every cent. The chipset inside has been upgraded to the newer Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, delivering unwavering performance. Thankfully, the overheating issues from the 4 Pro have been fixed and it feels like the anti-gravity dual VC liquid cooling system is doing its job.

The device is powered by Qualcomm SM8450 Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Octa-core processor. The smartphone is equipped with an OLED capacitive touchscreen of 6.67 inches in size while the resolution is 1080 x 2400 pixels. These triggers can also be assigned almost any command, even when you're outside of gameplay. That's a neat feature that not many other phones are offering right now, and it came in particularly handy as an extra shutter button or toggle to close an app. Putting the device through the Geekbench 5 benchmark test, it returned a multi-core score of 3,531. This marks it out as one of the most powerful phones with this chipset, beating the Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus by around 100 points and the Xiaomi 12, OnePlus 10 Pro and Oppo Find X5 Pro by even more.Of course, if you desire specs like wireless charging and waterproofing, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra will also suffice. Slap on a decent Android controller and convert it into a mobile gaming rig on the fly.

In this generation of phones, it seems Shark Space has some changes - there's more to it than just a list of games to boot up, and in the launch event, an AI companion from popular game Genshin Impact popped up and started talking too. Much of the conversation around Android phones of late has shifted towards updates. Consumers are starting to care a lot more about this factor and I'm here for it. If I'm paying hundreds of dollars on a phone, I want it to receive timely updates for at least three years. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset is of course the same as can be found in the latest Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. As you might expect, the company's latest flagship gaming phones are set to feature impressive specs, even when compared to the likes of the ASUS ROG Phone 5S Pro.The sensors include Fingerprint (side-mounted), accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass, and barometer. It also supports USB Type-C 2.0, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, QZSS, BDS, and Bluetooth 5.2. This is helped by the presence of pop-up physical triggers along the right edge of the phone, which can be assigned a function for your game, to turn your smartphone into a device that more resembles a gaming controller. This setup delivers quite an advantage in games.
