Over and over again, the Bible tells the true story of a holy God who did everything to rescue us from ourselves, to save us from our sin that we might have a relationship with Him and live our lives for His glory. Joseph was Jacob’s twelfth child and Rachel’s first, as God opened her womb and enabled her to conceive. God rebuked Cain for his actions and told him that from this point, he would be “a homeless wanderer on the earth” ( Genesis 4:12). Cain replied that he could not bear the punishment of forever wandering and that “anyone who finds me will kill me!” God replied that he would punish anyone who killed Cain seven times over and put a mark on him so that anyone who tried to kill him would be warned off ( Genesis 4:15-16). After this point, Cain had a son named Enoch, founded a city, and had various descendants who developed skills like playing music, forging metal, and nomadic herding ( Genesis 4:17-24). Why Did Cain Kill Abel? This is a great Bible option for kids, even elementary-aged and middle-grade kids. The text is written for kids, which helps make it understandable, digestible, and applicable for kids. The second concern was to make the language simple to read and understand. In maintaining language simplicity, several guidelines were followed. Sentences have been kept short and uncomplicated. Vocabulary choice has been based upon The Living Word Vocabulary by Dr. Edgar Dale and Dr. Joseph O’Rourke (Worldbook-Childcraft International, 1981) which is the standard used by the editors of The World Book Encyclopedia to determine appropriate vocabulary.

Understanding the Importance of Scripture for Kids Forget boring! Dave Strehler’s The Bible Made Easy – for Kids takes readers both young and old on a fun-filled, informative journey to understand the Bible and apply it to their lives. According to Genesis 4, after being exiled from the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve had two sons: Cain and Abel. Cain was the first son, the Bible doesn’t specify how much later that Abel was born. The New International Reader’s Version (NIRV) is a great kids Bible translation because it is written at a lower reading level than most other translations, making it more accessible for elementary school-aged children. Additionally, the NIRV includes both the Old Testament and New Testament, as well as helpful illustrations and notes that will help kids understand the Bible stories better. The ICB might not be the best Bible option for Scripture memory or the Bible they take with them to college, but it makes a GREAT transition Bible through the elementary years. At other times, our go-to choice is The Child’s Story Bible by Catherine Vos(ours is an updated version of the 1935 original). The International Children’s Bible is not a storybook or a paraphrased Bible. It is a translation of God’s Word from the original Hebrew and Greek languages. It is the first translation of the Holy Scriptures prepared specifically for children. Until now children have had to learn God’s truths either from Bible storybooks or adult language Bibles. Many words and concepts, readily understood by adults may leave children mystified or even with false impressions. Every attempt has been made to maintain proper English style, while simplifying concepts and communications. The beauty of the Hebrew parallelism in poetry and the word plays have been retained. Images of the ancient languages have been captured in equivalent English images wherever possible. Our Prayer The Gospel remains central to all these children’s versions. Whether it’s the New Testament’s recounting of Jesus’s life or the Old Testament’s tales of faith and perseverance, the essence remains unchanged. Parents can be assured that, whether their child is reading the NIV, ESV, or any other translation, the core message of God’s love and the teachings of Christ come through clearly.

A lot of people recommend this story Bible for younger children, but my kids never appreciated it until they were a little bit older. Personally, I found the JSB to be incredibly impactful reading it as an adult. I recommend the JSB for kids over 6 years old, but I especially recommend it for adults! If you do read this one with younger kids, we have found the DVD set incredibly helpful for bigs AND littles (you can also watch it free as part of your Jelly Telly subscription!!) The International Children’s Bible— For ages 6+ Abel: Abel was the second son of Adam and Eve. He was a shepherd and offered a sacrifice to God that was pleasing to Him. One example of the consequences of their parents' fall was Cain's jealousy of Abel. Cain's wrath led him to murder Abel, consumed by his passion.

The International Children’s Bible® is not a storybook or a paraphrased Bible. It is a translation of God’s Word from the original Hebrew and Greek languages. First printed in London in 1759, The Children's Bible ( Philadelphia, 1763) was the earliest Bible for children printed in America. [2] Story-Bibles include Christian Gottlob Barth's Bible Stories which was a popular children's Bible in India during the 1840s, Logan Marshall's The Wonder Book of Bible Stories (1904), Arthur S. Maxwell's [3] The Bible Story (1953–57) [4] and The Children's Bible Story Book (1991) a children's version of the Bible by Anne de Graaf placed in United Kingdom primary schools by the charity Bibles for Children (founded 1997). Catherine F. Vos, wife of theologian Geerhardus Vos, was the author of the well known Child's Story Bible (1935). [5] One of my boys absolutely loved The Adventure Bible. He had previously resisted getting into a regular Bible-reading habit, but when we gave him his Adventure Bible, I often found him curled up in bed reading more. What a joy it was to see him wanting to read his Bible and sneaking more and more time reading!

Cain: Cain was the firstborn son of Adam and Eve. Unfortunately, he became a farmer and is infamous for committing the first murder in the Bible by killing his brother Abel.
