Description

The conductor passes through and clips your golden ticket with your first initial, just like the film. As we'd expect, the print is absolutely clean, and the overall visual impression is a highly pleasant one. The last and most minor special features include a mini-game in which you steer the train (no big thrills there) and a trailer for the upcoming Polar Express computer game.

Late one Christmas Eve, the young boy is lying awake waiting for the sound of sleigh bells ringing from Santa's sleigh. In the end, it's impossible to point to any one thing and say "This is what makes The Polar Express a great film. This is the story of a young hero boy who boards on a powerful magical train that's headed to the North Pole and Santa Claus' home on Christmas Eve night. When they reach the north pole, the children meet Santa Claus, and the boy gets the very first Christmas present of the year, a sleigh bell from Santa Claus' sleigh.

Remember to be on their best behaviour as the elves will be scanning little ones to see if they’re on the nice list this year. Enjoy a 30 minute performance in a heated marquee before setting off on your 60 minute Polar Express train ride. In terms of the story arc, the journey is the destination: except for the scene at the heart of the film, the child characters are always moving forward literally as well as figuratively. There's nothing outstanding here, but there are some short features that are reasonably interesting. Here we can see computer graphics coming to maturity in film; the technology is used here to create a picture-book world with a soft, magical feel to it that not only is faithful to the look of the original picture book by Chris Van Allsburg, but is also perfectly matched to the tone of the film.
