Ronseal consistently make high quality paint and this is one in particular follows suit. If you’re looking for a specific paint for garage floors, this one will definitely do the job! It’s somewhat expensive and you’d probably be better off going for something else if you’re working with a budget. Give this plenty of time to set. I would say your best bet is a minimum of 48 hours. Cut this too short and you’ll find yourself with a mushy floor! Manufacturers normally recommend from about 16 hours onward but I can tell you in my experience they must have had some sweltering weather when they worked that out. Because mine has never set so fast fully, that I was confident to layer again! TA Concrete Floor Paint for Garage, Workshops Floors has good coverage and needs just two coats and no separate primer. With its wide range of 26 colours and plenty of paint tin sizes, this fast-drying glossy paint is both functional and colourful. For some, a garage is simply a place to store lawn mowers, Christmas decorations and tools. But for others, a garage is a living, breathing workshop as valuable as any room in the house. If you’re in the latter camp, then painting your garage floor is a no-brainer. The best garage floor paints are specifically formulated for the garage environment – and there are many reasons why you should consider using it.

The semi-gloss finish of the paint serves as a resist to oil and grease. The manufacturer states that hot vehicle tyres won’t pull the paint up from the floor to transfer to them. This paint does, however, take much longer to dry than others we review, at between 14 to 16 hours. You shouldn’t be in a hurry to use the garage and walk on the floor. But when the floor is all dry, it really stands up to a lot of cleaning. Top tip once you find the right garage floor paint to avoid disaster: Now it’s super important to realise that during the curing process, damp or humidity can be a disaster for polyurethane paint. It can literally ruin your coat of paint. So make sure your area stays free from moisture, at least while the curing process occurs. This differs considerably when compared to epoxy garage floor paint which cures differently but given it’s less resistant to scratch and scuffs I have steered away from those in this review to an extent. Polyurethane is better for most home use as well as commercial, it’s the type of paint you’ll often see in a garage – ideal to protect against spills of oil and grease – as you would expect from a garage floor paint! TA Paints offer another oil-based concrete floor paint whose first coat acts as a good primer. The high gloss finish looks fantastic and the sheer number of colours available seals its place on this list. If you’ve only just laid your cement or concrete, we’d recommend waiting several months before painting with this particular paint for best results. FeaturesFinally, you’re going to have to play the waiting game again. Most paints will allow for light foot traffic within several hours but it can be a couple of weeks before your fresh paint is set enough to endure vehicles parking on it. Summary Are you looking to paint your garage floor but not quite sure which paint or product to use? Well done you for taking the time to do a bit of research. Garage floor paint is nothing like the standard stuff you roll on walls, not even the good quality wall paint. It comes with the additional burden that you will be walking or driving on it, so needs to bond considerably firmer and be much stronger. Painting your garage floor might seem like a bit of a daunting task to the average home owner but it doesn’t need to be as complicated as you think.

Remember that the drying times given by the manufacturer depend on warm weather (usually around 20° C), low humidity and a constantly blowing breeze. Any change to these conditions lengthens the drying times, sometimes considerably. You can fake a breeze by using fans, but temperature and humidity are more difficult to control. Overall it leaves a lovely finish, it is probably the actual best garage floor paint money can buy and also longest lasting, but at the value I just can’t rate it top overall. Pros: The ultimate protection for garage floors, its unique water-based acrylic formula, developed specifically for use on stone as concrete garage floors, is tough, durable and chemical resistant formulaTo really get the most out of this paint, we recommend diluting it first with about 10% white spirit. Features

If you do decide to go this route make sure you give ample time before heavy traffic, a week is probably the best but under the right conditions you can really reduce this considerably. Pros: To remove dust and dirt you can use a vacuum cleaner, jet wash or firm wire brush. These are usually effective in getting the surface clean. We also highly recommend you use our Acid Etch Primer, it’s easy to apply, and effectively dissolves mortar stains, cleans ingrained dirt and removes light oil. It’s also particularly durable, so you won’t end up with a patchy floor after a few months of walking or standing in the same place, or where you drive your car in and out. The make-up of garage floor paint means your floor will be protected against oil, water, certain chemicals and other fluids, and spillages will be easier to clear up, leaving you more time to do more productive things.

The best garage floor paint you can buy in 2023

Make sure the surface is dry and clean by removing any dust or dirt. This will provide a better, long-lasting finish for the paint to be applied on. By choosing the best paint for the job you’ve already won half the battle. Strictly follow the guidelines on your tin of paint and you can’t go far wrong. Get Prices for a Professional Decorator Near You The manufacturer strongly recommends that you use its Polyurethane Floor Sealer with this paint. Pros Ventilation – for your health and safety, ensure the area is well ventilated, (this will also improve drying time). Now you’ve decided on your paint, what comes next? Painting a garage floor is no small task and the key is in your preparation. As the old adage goes “fail to prepare, prepare to fail.” You don’t want to spend good money and effort on painting your garage floor if the result is flaking paint or paint that comes off easily. The finish looks lovely though and a big thanks to Patricia for sending in some before and afters of using this paint with a grey pigment which looks fantastic: As far as painting goes the key is preparation. Don’t sweep up, instead, hoover up. Make sure there is no overhanging cobwebs or anything that could fall into your paint for that matter. Have a really deep clean and vent the area well. Make sure it’s completely dry – polyurethane paint doesn’t like water at all during the curing process. So if it’s been raining outside the cure time between coats goes up dramatically. You have a choice of 15 colours in this paint, including dark green, mid blue and orange. However you want your garage floor to look, there’s a colour for you. Light grey is reviewed to be really more of a beige colour, but this seems to be the case for several makes of garage floor paint in our review. Coverage is advertised at 6 to 8m 2 per litre of paint, so it’s not the most coverage we’ve seen. Polar says its paint is good for high-traffic areas, although it recommends two coats for the best results. It’s resistant to many chemicals, plus dust and moisture, and will withstand regular washing with water. It’s slip-resistant, too. First up is Polar Heavy Duty Garage Floor Paint. Given most of the paint in my review is polyurethane based they are nearly on a level playing field when you compare the chemical breakdown, but I quite like the semi gloss look of this paint with a decent range of colours (though only this light grey). When I first reviewed this a couple of years ago, when I used it, the price was much lower – it looks like all floor paints are way up on the last couple of years! Regular Updates: Our recommendations stay current with any changes in product performance or availability. We advise you to apply Polar Acid Etch Primer before painting to increase surface abrasion, and clean and protect the concrete surface prior to the paint being applied.
