Propane gas is mainly used as a commercial heating and large appliance fuel (such as heating and cooking in catering vans or on BBQs). Propane has a boiling temperature of -42ºc, so is suitable for use all-year-round. Propane is ideal if you’re intending to use your BBQ or appliance in very cold temperatures. First- and second-stage regulators: Regulates the pressure in two stages. First-stage regulators are the primary means of pressure regulation on LPG bulk tanks. A second-stage regulator is installed to further reduce pressure following the first-stage regulation. It’s important to know that gas bottles must be disposed of in the correct and legal way. For example, only people authorised by Calor, such as our nominated retailers or Calor centres, are allowed to be in possession of empty cylinders and to handle or dispose them. If you’re unsure, please call your local Calor Distribution Centrefor assistance.

Remove the protective plastic plug from the female valve outlet on the cylinder connection and leave it hanging (to replace later) Using the correct size spanner, screw the bullnose connection into the cylinder valve female connection. Make sure the gas bottle connection is tight There is one caveat to this however. You won’t need to use a regulator if you have a High-Pressure BBQ. This is because this type of BBQ is designed to connect directly to the gas bottle via a threaded connection. High-Pressure BBQs are designed to receive a much higher flow of gas and as a result, don’t require a gas regulator. Common types of gas bottles and their regulators Except for multi-bottle installations with a changeover valve, turn off the gas tap if it’s fitted to the appliance. Wait until the burner and pilot lights have gone out. For installations with a change-over valve, you only need to turn off the empty gas bottle Patio gas stored in green cylinders is propane, which is ideally for use in outdoor areas. This is specifically called Patio gas because it is designed to power outdoor appliances such as gas barbecues and patio heaters, and these bottles are compatible with a 27mm clip on regulator.Automatic changeover regulator: Once your main supply gas cylinder runs out, this twin-stage regulator automatically switches to the reserve.

Shortly after the introduction of wall-mounted regulators, service specialists reported that ‘an oily liquid’ was sometimes discovered in the gas supply pipes. This mysterious liquid also found its way into regulators, some of which hadto be replaced. Not surprisingly, it was also believed that this liquid was probably the cause of gas starvation and the failure of certain appliances. Beyond these distinctions, there are various benefits to each type of gas which we have detailed below. What are the benefits of using butane gas for BBQs? The instructions with your equipment will tell you if you need high or low pressure regulator. UK & Ireland Gas Regulator Differences Before September 2003, tourers constructed in the UK (and most of mainland Europe) were not supplied with a gas regulator. There are a number of questions that always come up when searching for a gas regulator; which regulator for Calor gas, which gas regulator for BBQ, which regulator for propane tank etc. Here at Gas Equipment Direct, our aim is to make it as easy as possible for our customers to find the exact regulator they require. Gas regulars aren’t one-size-fits-all. Many kinds of regulators vary depending on the appliance and how you’ll be using the gas. There is a difference between a regulator for a large cylinder tank and one for a small BBQ. Here are the main gas regulators in Australia:

Gas is available in small ‘patio bottles’. These are specifically designed for use with outdoor appliances such as BBQs. Patio gas bottles are generally filled with propane gas.I have a 4.5 kg blue Calor gas bottle complete with hose and regulator and 2 x 15kg blue gas bottles. I plan on keeping the 2 x 15kg bottles at home, and probably changing one of them to a red one for winter use. At some point I would like to swop my elec hob cooker at home for a gas hob so I would use these gas bottles for that. So it was no surprise when all caravans approved by the National Caravan Council (NCC) were required to have this revised arrangement fitted on 2004 and subsequent models – all models launched since1 September 2003.

Gas regulators are there to keep you safe. A regulator controls the flow of gas from the bottle, through the hose, to your BBQ. Without a regulator, you would run the risk of letting too much gas reach your BBQ at once, with dangerous consequences. In January 2007, the NCC published a statement andI reported on some of its proposals in the fourth edition of The Caravan Manual (Haynes Publishing).
