The Dead is the second book in the series and the first book chronologically. It was published on the 16th September, 2010. The book follows a single story line of survivors, but is seen from their different perspectives: The sixth book of the series and the fifth book chronologically. It was released 2nd June, 2015. It follows two major simultaneous plot lines with them joining together in the end; Bernie – One of the Waitrose group, an emo who's responsible for many of the group's engineering feats, and Ben's best friend (see above). The kids at the museum are looking for a cure. All they need are medical supplies. To get them means a journey down unknown roads. Suddenly it's not so clear who - or what - they're fighting.

Maxie, Blue and the rest of the Holloway crew aren't the only kids trying to escape the ferocious adults who prey on them. Justin; Known as the king of the nerds, he wants to learn more about the disease and eventually one day find a cure.

The third story line follows a boy named Callum, who stays behind at the Holloway crew's old settlement, and how his life changes after they leave. The preparation for a battle in Hyde Park and the political actions between Jordan, David, Nicola, Justin and Matt. Whitney – The Morrisons group's second-in-command and a central character in the novel. After the Morrisons and Waitrose groups merge, Whitney strikes up a good friendship with Maxie. Whitney, in the end, also escapes David's rule.

Deke – A boy in the Waitrose group. He is Freak's best friend and, before the epidemic, always hung around with him. During the swimming pool episode, Deke dies after suffering a punctured lung from broken vending machine glass, and grown-ups take him away to eat him.Now there are rumours of a safe place to hide. And so a gang of children begin their quest across London, where all through the city - down alleyways, in deserted houses, underground - the grown-ups lie in wait.
