Luke Newton, who plays Colin in "Bridgerton," told TODAY about what Colin sees in Penelope. "She gives him a sense of that warm feeling that reminds him of home. When he has a moment alone with Pen, it feels like he’s been really himself," Newton said of the characters' connection.

However, the book largely falls apart in the final section, Responsible. Here, we learn about 3 additional "social narratives": Altruism, Health, and Free will. The psychological studies cited here are all incredibly sketchy and have inconsistent results - as the author freely admits. Somehow this story reminded me of Something Fabulous by Alexis Hall. It’s as hilarious, ridiculous, marvelous, glorious, and amorous. It’s also full of banter, and so vibrant and sweet, and sometimes almost over the top. But don’t let the tone of the writing fool you; there are heavier hitting topics underneath. The friends-to-lovers, pining from afar, SLOW BURN romance, was enough to make my cold and withered heart grow three sizes before all was said and done. The miscommunication not bothering me the way it often does, proving again that it can work really well in any story when executed correctly. Bought a subscription as a Christmas present for my Mam. She loved the book and is looking forward to the next one.

I’ve been looking for fantasy books with gay main characters in a world where being gay isn’t a big deal or their sexuality isn’t a plot point, and this book is perfect in that sense, but it was just not doing it for me in every other way. Falters in places, but Dolan does a good job of using available research to show why unquestioning adherence to certain narratives of what will make us happy (he looks at wealth, success, marriage and kids, altruism) undermines our happiness and makes sure we're never satisfied with what we have.

Our Book and Pamper Box is perfect for those book lovers who love a good pamper and like to get nice and cosy with their book. Alongside a new book, you will also receive a beauty product, some yummy chocolate, hot drink and a bookmark. The products are of course vegan, so with a different beauty product and chocolate in each box it is a perfect vegan gift for her. It is a source of immense frustration to many social scientists that people rarely do what those scientists think they should. They have come up with lots of theories as to why people do things they ‘shouldn’t’. The most famous is Karl Marx’s notion of ‘False consciousness‘, which held that “members of the proletariat unwittingly misperceive their real position in society and systematically misunderstand their genuine interests within the social relations of production under capitalism.” In other words, workers would all be Marxists if only they weren’t duped by the bourgeoisie. Thankfully they had Marx to tell them what they really needed. An Offer From a Gentleman" expands Benedict's story. In season one of Netflix’s “Bridgerton,” Benedict is depicted as a creative and artistic free spirit, struggling to find a place for himself in the rigid structures of London society. In the book, Benedict wrestles with forging his own identity separate from his large family. Essentially, he wants to be more than a “Bridgerton.” Unfortunately, it's dull as ditchwater. There's a lot of facts and figures which will be appealing to sociology students, but make it a hard reader to the lay person.Dolan is a behavioral scientist and thus has, not surprisingly, a very scientific way of looking at this. However, I liked it that he made it more human and relatable by giving his own interpretations of things at times, whilst still leaving space for readers to disagree. The book consistently worked through several topics on which we are vulnerable to the happiness narrative. Ranging from marriage, kids, health, and education there will probably be chapters to which you can relate more than others, but I found several of them to be real eye-openers! Midway through The Duke and I, Simon refuses to accept a bundle of letters written to him by his late estranged father. Daphne, anticipating that he might someday change his mind, takes the letters and hides them, but when she offers them to Simon at the end of the book, he decides not to open them. I hadn’t originally intended for him to do this; I’d always figured there would be something great and important in those letters. But when Daphne held them out, it became clear to me that Simon didn’t need to read his father’s words. It finally didn’t matter what the late duke had thought of him. The fourth book in the "Bridgerton" series puts the spotlight on the cheeky third Bridgerton brother, Colin. His love interest is a character you already know, and likely love: Penelope Featherington, the red-headed, yellow-clad friend of the Bridgertons.

Happily Ever After: Companion to the Selection Series by

Interesting. Behavioural scientist Paul Dolan here aims to put together something which takes a utilitarian view of human sociology, especially with regards happiness. He groups his thoughts into three sections (each of three subjects) dealing with the themes of wealth/success, love/family, and self-determination, and asks us to reject the common (Western) narratives for each, which might be making us unhappy.Bridgerton" may already be setting up the events of "To Sir Phillip, With Love." Philip Crane appeared in season one as Marina Thompson's husband. He marries Marina in a bid to protect her honor: She is pregnant with his brother's child, and his brother died on the battlefield. And oh my goodness - that pining! It is the highlight of the book, how utterly head-over-heels the two are, and I really enjoyed being frustrated about how everything could be solved with just a little communication. I also enjoyed the found family aspect of the story, and how well the characters mesh together. I mostly enjoyed it - pop science on human behaviours- focusing on and challenging 'traditional' life goals and the hierarchies around them. Instead, Arek goads Matt into helping him woo their other friends, hoping that one will reciprocate and save Arek from death. All the while, Arek pines over the mage and best friend who’s been by his side for years, oblivious to the fact that love may have been right in front of him all along.

I've just taken out a subscription as a gift for my mum and she's received her first box. It's great, 3 excellent titles that I can't wait to read after her. And a pretty little gift surprise as an added extra. Customer service is excellent too as we had a small problem with the initial delivery but after a swift response the issue was sorted. No complaints and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend! There is no pure altruism. Boasting about good deads is fine, the personal gain from it is not harmful and we should concentrate on the good that was done. In fact if more people talked about their charity contributions, there might be more social pressure motivating the others to join in. By the way, forget what you knew about class theory. Apparently class is determined by your leisure activities. This guy sure has a chip on his shoulder about being into body building. We use new books - for that lovely new book smell, but they have all been rescued from going to landfill or being pulped. After maintaining a correspondence with a widower and famous scientist named Sir Phillip Crane, 28-year-old Eloise decides to take a leap of faith and accept his written proposal. She leaves her family home to marry a man she has never met. What more would we expect from the independent, free-spirited Eloise? The book is organized into three sections: Reaching, Related, and Responsible. In Reaching, Dolan steps through the associations of happiness with education and career choices. In Related, he examines the correlations with items such as marriage and children. Tessa moves in with Landon and starts working with Nora at a fancy restaurant and Hardin starts going to AA and graduates from university. Months later, Hardin comes to NYC for work and Landon offers to host him.
