Description

If you’re a Tabasco fan, this is no doubt a fun collectible. Tabasco Scorpion was supposed to be a limited edition, but people went crazy for it so now it’s here to stay. The Hot Sauce Scoville Scale lists numerous hot sauces sorted by their pungency and their amount of capsaicin in Scoville Heat Units (SHU). A hot sauce, also known as chili pepper sauce is a spicy seasoning sauce made from chili peppers and other ingredients such as various fruit and vegetables, vinegar and spices. In addition to changing the degree of spiciness, hot sauce is also used to alter the actual taste of a dish. The production of hot sauces can be done by cooking, fermentation, but also by using only raw ingredients. Types of Hot Sauce Looking for a hot sauce with intense heat? This sauce–made from a combination of scorpion peppers blended with guava, pineapple and a dash of TABASCO ® Sauce–is tangy in flavor with untamed heat and a touch of Caribbean sweetness. In addition to the online Country Store, TABASCO ® Scorpion Sauce is now available at select Kroger stores in the United States.

This is, of course, great on eggs (as Tabasco always is.) And it works great as a marinade too, you’ll just have to dash it out for quite a while due to the stopper, but dare I say, the Jamaican taste it will provide makes it worth all the arm soreness. Tabasco has been making hot sauce on Avery Island, Louisiana for over 150 years. The brand was founded by Edmund McIlhenny in 1868. McIlhenny first created Tabasco as a way to add some flavour to the otherwise bland diet of the time, and the original recipe is still followed to this day. If you want to try this unique hot sauce, you can likely find it in the grocery store next to Tabasco original. You can also get it online here for a bit of a markup. In short, Tabasco scorpion sauce has a heat level between 23,000-33,000 SHUs on the Scoville scale. This makes the sauce about 8-10x hotter than Tabasco’s Original sauce. This is because scorpion peppers are quite fruity on their own. It can be hard to tell when you eat one fresh, because the blinding heat takes over in a matter of seconds. However, these “superhot” chilies are from the same tropical climate as guava and pineapple.

Tabasco Brand Pepper Sauce was the very first hot sauce I ever tried. I was in my 10s, and I said a bad word. A dab of Tabasco was my punishment. For those who like to use about 10 dashes of regular Tabasco on one bite, an equivalency here is like a drop. This builds to a point where you’ll have to stop if you don’t want to be rushing for milk, versus regular Tabasco where you can go all day. Usability What’s most surprising is the use of guava and pineapple as the main accenting flavors. This gives Tabasco scorpion an interesting twist. But guess what? It works. Since Tabasco Original Red Sauce is in the mix, anywhere you’d use the original you could give Tabasco Scorpion a go. Though it’s a little sweeter than a typical Louisiana-style hot sauce, so keep that sweetness in mind. It’s an excellent choice for sweeter dishes where Tabasco Original may have been too vinegar-forward to play. I added it to pineapple sorbet, and it changed the eating experience completely (in a good way.) So, to bring things full circle, today I’ll share my review of Tabasco Scorpion hot sauce. This is the hottest sauce that Tabasco currently offers, using scorpion peppers as a main ingredient. Let’s get into it!Ingredients: Scorpion peppers, distilled vinegar, sugar, guava puree, pineapple, salt, guava powder, pineapple powder, TABASCO® brand pepper sauce (distilled vinegar, red pepper, salt). Capsicum chinense peppers have a very aromatic flavor with a very high to extremely high pungency. They are therefore also suitable for the production of extremely hot chili sauces and extracts. So it is not surprising that the Scoville scale is led by Blair’s 16 million reserve. The 16 million in the name stands for 16 million Scoville Heat Units. It is not a sauce, but Pure Capsaicin crystals. So, where can this extra-spicy sauce be used? It comes in a tiny bottle, so keep in mind that a little goes a long way with this one!

Overall, it’s a level of tastiness that takes you completely by surprise, especially if you’re expecting something closer to Tabasco’s Original Red. That’s pretty long compared to the three-ingredient Original Red Sauce. In fact, it’s a lot like how they approached Tabasco Scorpion, with a selection of tropical fruit purées and spices — like a Jamaican-style hot sauce. Those, with that extra pepper mash, changes the mouth feel of Tabasco Habanero Sauce right from the start.Participating Restaurants: The full list of Participating Restaurants is set out below. This list is subject to change: Tabasco Scorpion is sort of a sauce within a sauce. The ingredients are: Scorpion peppers, distilled vinegar, sugar, guava puree, pineapple, salt, guava powder, pineapple powder, TABASCO® Brand Pepper Sauce (distilled vinegar, red pepper, salt).
