Description

Viktor Krum was regularly seen swimming in the Great Lake, even in the winter. Ron and Harry couldn’t believe that he was doing so given the freezing temperatures, but Hermoine pointed out that where he lived was much colder, so these temperatures seemed somewhat warm to him.

Based on the fact that Durmstrang does not admit Muggle-borns as students, which makes it unlikely that they would admit them as professors or headmasters either. Karkaroff was also a member of the Death Eaters organisation, which was dedicated to eliminating Muggle-borns. The only student Karkaroff seemed to respect and care about was Viktor Krum, most likely because Krum was a famous professional Quidditch player prodigy, and Karkaroff thought that he would win the Triwizard Tournament for him. Karkaroff doted on Krum when he felt unwell after their journey to Hogwarts, although he expressed no such concern for his other students. He constantly gave Viktor full marks on the tournament while giving the other champions less than what they deserve, and even provided his own champion information as part of the tournament's tradition of cheating. Karkaroff also refused to allow Muggle-born students to study at Durmstrang, and seemed to disapprove of Krum's relationship with Muggle-born Hermione Granger. [14] Viktor always said — He said Harry knew how to do stuff even he didn't, and he was in his final year at Durmstrang." — Hermione Granger, Viktor regarding Harry's skills [src]Duellist: He claimed that, if it would not disturb Bill Weasley and Fleur Delacour's wedding, he would duel Xenophilius Lovegood for wearing Gellert Grindelwald's symbol. When Viktor Krum arrived at Hogwarts, he had a bit of a head cold, but that didn’t stop many of the 6th year girls from trying to get his autograph when he first entered the Great Hall and took his place at the Slytherin table. Ron Weasley desperately wanted an autograph as well but developed a strong dislike of Viktor Krum after Viktor asked Hermione to the Yule Ball. It wasn’t until the end of the year when he finally overcame his trepidation and asked for an autograph, mollifying Viktor Krum before his departure. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Chapter 15 ( Beauxbatons and Durmstrang) - 'Karkaroff had a fruity, unctuous voice; when he stepped into the light pouring from the front doors of the castle, they saw that he was tall and thin like Dumbledore, but his white hair was short, and his goatee (finishing in a small curl) did not entirely hide his rather weak chin.'

During the first task of the Triwizard Tournament, Krum used the Conjunctivitis Curse against his dragon, a female Chinese Fireball, which blinded her, causing her to crush some of her eggs, which lost him points. [3] During the second task which took place in the Great Lake, he transformed himself into a shark so he could swim underwater, albeit badly. [4] During the third task in the Triwizard Maze, he was placed under the Imperius Curse by Bartemius Crouch Junior, [5] in which Barty made him use the Cruciatus Curse on Cedric Diggory. [6] From the Story [ ] Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire [ ] Discovered in chapter 7, Bagman and Crouch [ ] “ Viktor was part of the Durmstrang delegation that travelled with Igor Karkaroff to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to compete in the Triwizard Tournament on October 30th. His presence at the school caused a stir amongst the student body since he was famous, and he was followed by groups of giggling girls. He entered his name into the Goblet of Fire to participate in the Tournament, and was selected as the Durmstrang Champion during the Halloween Feast on October 31st. He expressed no opinion on the entry of a fourth Champion — Harry Potter — into the Tournament when he found out.

References from the canon

In his younger days, Karkaroff was a Death Eater and acquaintance of Severus Snape. It was reported that Karkaroff helped Antonin Dolohov torture Muggles and non-supporters of Lord Voldemort during the First Wizarding War. He was eventually captured by Auror Alastor Moody and spent a short period of time in Azkaban. [12] A human body in swimming trunks with the head of a shark.... It was Krum. He appeared to have transfigured himself — but badly." — Krum's use of human transfiguration in the Great Lake [src] Krum takes Hermione to the Yule Ball as his date. The pair enter the Great Hall with the rest of the Durmstrang students, leading the group. Krum leads Hermione to the top table for dinner. He tells her enthusiastically about the Durmstrang castle and the students' life at the school. He has difficulty with Hermione's name, and keeps calling her 'Hermy-own'. He eventually progresses to pronouncing her name 'Herm-own-ninny'. After dinner, he and Hermione join the other champions on the dance floor for the opening song. The pair continue to dance together as the other students join them on the dance floor.

In 1994, he played in the final of the Quidditch World Cup. The Irish won the match, but Viktor caught the Golden Snitch to end the match on his terms. Later in the year, he was part of the Durmstrang delegation sent to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for the Triwizard Tournament. Subsequently, he was selected by the Goblet of Fire as the Durmstrang Champion, and competed bravely. However, the Tournament ended in tragedy with the death of Cedric Diggory, and Viktor returned home. In 1997, he attended the wedding of Fleur Delacour and Bill Weasley. While it is unknown exactly when Karkaroff was born, he would have to have been born by 1964, to have been of age for his trial in 1981. Ron's and Hermione's wands should also be noted. Hermione's is made from vine and contains Dragon heartstring. Vine can represent great bounty, renewal, and also extreme emotions such as joy and anger. Ron's first wand, his brother Charlie's hand-me-down, was ash and Unicorn hair. His second wand, the one that presumably "chose" him, is willow and Unicorn hair. Willow is associated with gaining knowledge, personal growth, healing, and repulsing evil. It can also represent death and mourning. Though wands typically perform less efficiently for someone who was not "chosen" or had not captured it from another Wizard, presumably a wand handed down within a family offers its allegiance to a close blood relative, in this case, Ron. When he spoke to Viktor at the wedding of Bill Weasley and Fleur Delacour in 1997, Harry recalled suddenly that he had heard the name when he saw the wand-weighing ceremony. Viktor was somewhat alarmed that Harry, who was disguised as a Weasley cousin at the time, knew anything about his wand, as he never spoke to the public about it. [2] Behind the scenes [ ]

Viktor is Hermione Granger's date for the Yule Ball, and he also asks her to visit him in Bulgaria. He tells her he has never felt before the way he does about her. Hermione does not reciprocate these feelings, but that does not seem to prevent Viktor writing to her repeatedly and at some length during the years following the TriWizard Tournament. Harry Potter's best friend, Ron, has a bit of a rough "spell" with his Harry Potter character wands, going through two during his time at Hogwarts. His first, a hand-me-down from his brother Charlie Weasley, was 12 inches long and was made of ash, with a unicorn hair core. Unfortunately for Ron, this wand was snapped in half during a run-in with the Whomping Willow. He attempted to fix it with Spello-Tape, but it was a lost cause, and he was forced to get a new one after multiple malfunctions caused him much grief and embarrassment. Viktor entered the maze behind Harry and Cedric, and began searching for the Triwizard Cup. During the task, Barty Crouch Jr, posing as Alastor Moody by way of the Polyjuice Potion, managed to place the Imperius Curse on Viktor as part of his plot to steer Harry Potter to victory in the Tournament. Under Moody's control, he caught up with Cedric and performed the Cruciatus Curse on him. However, he was Stunned by Harry and left unconscious. Cedric, against his better judgement, used his wand to shoot red sparks into the air, allowing him to be rescued from the maze.Viktor became attracted to Hermione Granger shortly after his arrival at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and spent a lot of time in the library, trying to find the courage to talk to her. Eventually, following the announcement of the Yule Ball, he finally worked up the nerve and asked her to the Ball as his date. She accepted, but told no one except Ginny Weasley. Thus, their arrival at the Ball together caused a minor stir, as Viktor was famous and Hermione made herself look exceptionally pretty. At Fleur Delacour and Bill Weasley's wedding in 1997, Viktor complimented Hermione upon seeing her, but was disappointed to learn that she and Ron Weasley were "sort of" a couple. [5] Harry Potter [ ] File:Harry-Potter-1-.jpg With the approach of the Yule Ball, Viktor finally found the courage to ask Hermione to the ball as his date, even though he could barely pronounce her name. They, with the other Champions, opened the dancing at the Ball; and Hermione spent the evening trying to teach Viktor how to pronounce her name correctly. An unexpected side-effect of their apparent relationship was that Hermione was chosen by the judges of the Tournament to be the hostage that Viktor would have to rescue from the Lake. How did she know Viktor asked me to visit him over the summer?" — Viktor invites Hermione to spend the summer with him [src] In the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Karkaroff also turned in Barty Crouch Jnr for torturing Alice and Frank Longbottom.
