This is true even compared to the Motorola Edge Plus, despite both phones having Full HD+ resolution. On the other hand, the G8 Power’s LCD screen doesn’t have as warm a tint to it as the OLED screens we’ve compared it to. The G8 Power’s screen is a little less sharp and vivid than OLED displays in a side-by-side test, and loses a little clarity when displaying darker color clusters (for example images containing browns and dark greens), which tend to blur together. The Power series is known for its class–leading battery life and that’s very much the case here thanks to a 5000mAh cell. If you only care about longevity, maybe for trips away or festivals, then it’s certainly worth taking a look at this. You shouldn’t buy it if… Gaming might not be a great idea on the Moto G8 Power Lite, though, at least if you like your top-end games. We found that standard puzzle games, like Nonogram or Candy Crush-style apps worked fine, but PUBG Mobile would just crash when we tried to open it. In terms of video recording, you can shoot in 1080p despite not being able to view it on the phone. There’s no option to change the frame rate, so we’d imagine it sits at a baseline 30fps, and you don’t get any of the various modes available on some other handsets, such as ‘short video’ or slow motion.

The rear cameras of mobile devices use mainly a LED flash. It may arrive in a single, dual- or multi-light setup and in different arrangements. W-CDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) is an air interface used by 3G mobile networks. It is one of the three different UMTS interfaces together with the TD-SCDMA and the TD-CDMA. The standard provides faster data transfer speeds and allows more users to connect to the network simultaneously. Battery must be substantially depleted; charging rate slows as charging progresses. All battery life claims are approximate and based on the median user tested across a mixed use profile (which includes both usage and standby time) under optimal network conditions. Actual battery performance will vary and depends on many factors including signal strength, network and device settings, temperature, battery condition, and usage patterns Information about the height, i.e. the vertical side of the device when it is used in its standard orientation. Moving on to the rear camera, there are three lenses here that combine to give a satisfactory experience compared to other cheap phones on the market.

The dimensions of 164.9 x 75.8 x 9.2mm tell you it’s pretty big, as they match those of some Plus-sized devices, and at 200g it weighs quite a bit for a budget phone (which are typically made of plastics and other lighter materials), though we’d assume a lot of that heft is thanks to the big battery. With more megapixels comes greater potential for detail capture, so the Redmi Note 8T has the lot beat in that department. The G8 fails to match the sheer quality of the Redmi’s images but it still represents a significant improvement when you compare with last year’s Moto G7. A CPU core is the processor unit, which executes software instructions. Presently, besides single-core processors, there are dual-core, quad-core, hexa-core and so on multi-core processors. They increase the performance of the device allowing the execution of multiple instructions in parallel. The differences between the two are equally obvious as soon as the light begins to fade. In my indoor, low-light test scene, The Moto G8 managed to boost the brightness more effectively than the G7, without capturing an overly warm-looking image. Neither picture is frame-worthy, sure, but the G8 is miles better in this scenario.

The phone comes in a single storage configuration of 64GB, which is pitifully low, although par for the course with budget phones, and it can at least be expanded via microSD (up to 512GB). When performing undemanding tasks such as messaging or social media I had no problems at all, but when running more demanding games you can sense this processor’s deficiencies – the experience is a little jerky, making it less enjoyable and potentially less competitive. The Moto G8 Power Lite isn’t a handset you should look at if you’re a budding smartphone photographer, as while its camera array isn’t terrible, it’s no better than passable, and we’d recommend splashing out on a slightly pricier phone (perhaps one of the other Moto G8 devices) if you want to take good-looking snaps. It probably goes without saying, but the Moto G8 isn’t capable of 5G connectivity. That’s something that is currently mostly reserved for top-end phones, and it’s unlikely we’ll see it on a device like this in the near future. We found it would run all the games we wanted it to, but this won’t be the device to go for if you want to be playing top-end titles like Call of Duty Mobile. It will run games of that type, but it won’t be as smooth as a top-end phone. This is able to run things like Words With Friends, but you’ll just have to wait a little longer than on a premium phone.

The Moto G8 Power is strongly recommended, but it’s not quite the game changer the G7 Power was

Keep in mind that, yes, the Moto G8 Power and Moto G Power are nearly identical phones – it’s just called the latter in the US. While that's a bit confusing, the phones are slightly different: in addition to main and ultrawide cameras, the Moto G8 Power has a telephoto 2x optical zoom rear camera while the Moto G Power has a macro lens. Also, the Moto G Power can connect to 5Ghz WiFi (aka 5G WiFi or 802.11ac), while the Moto G8 Power can only connect to 2.4Ghz spectrums. Information about the process technology used in manufacturing the chip. The value in nanometers represents half the distance between elements that make up the CPU. Information about additional software and hardware features of the rear camera which improve its overall performance.
