There’s plenty of guidance on how to paint your chosen subfaction, as well as fascinating lore on their histories, victories, and defeats.

They operate as an ‘elite’ army in Warhammer 40k, meaning they tend to field fewer miniatures than their opponents for the same budget of points, but each model can hope to deal out more punishment to the enemy before it gets blown away. It is rare to see an Aeldari warhost without a Farseer present to guide it. These immensely powerful psykers lead the armies of their craftworld, scrying the tendrils of the future with the help of arcane runes and psychic mastery. They maximise the natural skills and power of the Aeldari, and they hinder their foes with stupefying magics and eldritch storms. Guardian Hosts Simon: Ha! Well, we had a number of key moments where the result of a single dice roll would’ve changed the outcome of the battle. That’s one of the things I love most about playing smaller-scale games like Combat Patrol – or skirmish games such as Kill Team, Warcry, or the Middle-earth™ Strategy Battle Game, for that matter – as every blow or shot fired often has a far greater impact on the result than in larger battles. The greatest strength of Combat Patrol: Aeldari is its flexibility. Assemble your infantry as Storm Guardians and give the Wraithlord a ghostglaive to punch right through fortified enemy lines, or muster a squad of Guardian Defenders with a mobile Heavy Weapons Platform to hold the ground claimed by your blistering bikers.

Simon: I used the Fatebreakers , the Aeldari Combat Patrol led by Farseer Iraneth. They’re a well-rounded collection including the high-speed manoeuvrability of two squads of Windriders , and a tough, hard-hitting Wraithlord that’s a threat at every range. The Guardian Defenders have some formidable firepower at their disposal too – especially when bolstered by the Farseer’s Eldritch Storm – and crucially, her Foresight Enhancement means they can Fire Overwatch on a 5+ or better, so they’re a massive threat.

I’d consider having some fun and getting some more of the specialist units like Fire Dragons, Swooping Hawks or Dire Avengers. But really, you need to probably lean into the speed of this list. Perhaps drop the Wraithlord and think about more bikes or things like Swooping Hawks etc. Personally, I wouldn’t recommend this army to a brand new player. I’m not going to lie: this list is going to be fighting an uphill battle. Until you get the hang of positioning and how to really dissect an opponent’s army it’s gonna be rough. But it’s thematic and rewarding to play! If you’re up for a challenge then have at it!It comes armed with a Bright Lance for a little extra punch and it’s standard twin Shuriken Catapults. Of the 25 miniatures in the Orks Combat Patrol, 24 were brand new on the set’s release, including 20 new Ork Boyz, three Deffkoptas, and a Warboss in mega-armour. The Deff Dread isn’t a new sculpt, but is as shooty and stompy as ever. To add to this boxed set, we’re going to add a few extra units that’ll give the army a bit more play (especially onto Space Marines). Where to go from here? Expanding your Aeldari army post this box set could involve adding the Avatar of Khaine or the Yncarne as powerful and intimidating centrepieces. An Autarch Wayleaper makes for a brilliant character addition, thanks to its Lone Operative rule and Command Point generation capabilities. Falcons and Wave Serpents are excellent transport options, while Fire Prisms can add heavy firepower and range, making your force a threat from all distances.

Each Combat Patrol is supposed to be balanced against all the others. That might be hard to believe when looking at the contents of the Adeptus Custodes box set, as the boys in gold are notoriously hard! On top of that, you’ll get all you need to run more diverse armies than ever before, with combined hosts of Asuryani, Ynnari, and Harlequins. The Aeldari have always been a multifaceted race, but now they’re bringing their full strength to bear and you can demonstrate that on the tabletop like never before.Brave, honest and true, they only very occasionally indulge in macabre vampiric rituals with goblets of suspiciously viscous red ‘wine’– and it really is only once in a blue moon that one of them slips into an insane, suicidal killing frenzy fuelled by the overwhelming psychic grief imprinted in his DNA.
