Editing flaps are extra pieces of paper that stick onto their writing and show the additional sentences added into their work. It is expected that by the end of Key Stage 1 children know the example words for year 1 and 2, as well as including almost all exception words which are used frequently in pupils’ writing.

These lists include a mixture of those words children use in their writing as well as those that are often misspelt. After they have written their independent piece, their work is marked by the class teacher who identifies different aspects of their written piece to be edited. Children learn to sentence stack, focusing on the style of the author and impact of words and sentences. Children at Keresleyschoolsare encouraged to see writing as a journey; re-drafting and editing are used before writing is published.The FANTASTICS are used to focus the children's ideas about what can be seen, igniting their senses and broadening their vocabulary.

You will spend the day learning the system amongst like-minded teachers and those within the teaching profession. We use Letter-join as the basis of our handwriting policy that covers all the requirements of the 2014 National Curriculum. The Three Zones of Writing: The FANTASTICs (Ideas), The GRAMMARISTICs (Tools), and The BOOMTASTICs (Techniques) support their learning, precision and writing.

The Writing Rainbow poster is a classroom resource that encourages interaction and the collection of ideas during the writing process. Model section – the teacher close models a sentence that outlines clear writing features and techniques.
