They can live in harmony with their host for many years, like the beautiful wood shank fungus that is often found growing in holes of living trees, but they can also kill plants, such as the more deadly forms of honey fungus. It’s important to know that Judgment Day is set in a dystopian world where nature has been mutated beyond recognitio, and the mutation is highly contagious. It's the most unpredictable book I've ever read - anytime I thought I could guess what would happen next, I was proven wrong. It's just that because of the brain's flexibility, they give their various actions self-deluding meanings. I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who likes sci-fi fantasy, fairytale retellings with a dark twist (it is the little mermaid, if you didn't know, the REAL little mermaid story, that is, not Disney's), a touch of horror, a dance around thriller concepts, and genuine connection between characters holding it all together.

A dangerously addictive book that I would have read in an entire sitting if I didn't need to do annoying human functions like eat, sleep and go to work. i also really like an ze and i love that this novel is grappling with what it means to take over someone’s life. I knew that it was leading up to this moment of reunion between An Zhe and his spore the whole time, it was just a matter of how we were going to get there.

In the other hand it’s not that angsty and mostly sweet with the naive narration of the main character. However, it’s clear from his first official meeting with An Zhe that the man knows more than anyone can imagine and that he does in fact care. An Zhe quickly learns that the bullet casing belongs to Lu Feng, and this man who has an uncanny ability to spot xenogenics is An Zhe's only clue to being reunited with his spore. with sentences like "an zhe astutely picked up on the opportunity and seized the opportunity to ask. i also find it very interesting how the author has an zhe not care/be calm about certain things (like war crimes), not because he’s “not into politics” or whatever, but because he’s literally not human.

As of the end of this volume they are definitely not together, but it is starting to seem like a possibility. at first, it's a bit slow-paced, narrating the stories of the survivors outside the base, which then suddenly turned into an angst that kept me on the edge of my seat, and just like the first book, i read this within a day.

They propagated in the human cities, indiscriminately infecting all people and leaving corpses everywhere. Instead, An Zhe appears to be capable of creating full, unblemished genetical replication of what he “absorbs”, human genes included, as can be seen by Doctor Ji’s examination, which found no abnormalities within An Zhe, deeming the little mushroom “human”.

An Zhe ha madurado mucho del hongo ingenuo que salió de su cueva en busca de su espora al inicio del primer libro, ha conocido a la humanidad y ha llegado a apreciar su esfuerzo por sobrevivir, ya no solo como mero espectador, a pesar de los dolores y sufrimientos que le ha traído su contacto con ellos, no puede olvidar la calidez que le han brindado los amigos a los que ha conocido esos meses, y especialmente el brutal coronel Lu Feng, que le ha perdonado la vida una y otra vez a pesar de sus sospechas, aun cuando vuelven a encontrarse después que se ha descubierto su identidad real. it's actually really intriguing to read from an zhe's pov because of his indifference, his out-of-touch empathy towards his environment, and his slow adaptation to being a human, especially the human feelings foreign to a mushroom like him (the only thing he knows that seems closer to feelings is the instinct for survival of himself and his spore). This royal addition to the world of fungi is known for its thick stem, which has a meaty texture and earthy flavor.Recognisable by its foul odour, the stinkhorn relies on flies and other insects to transport its spores. they said that they can’t let the xenogenics get human genes, so humans must be incinerated immediately if they die, but didn’t we see that people who die in the wilderness aren’t incinerated? They often look bizarre and freakish, sometimes even resembling body parts from ears and brains to unmentionable others. The quilt, pillow, and bedsheets were all the base's standard issue, with no differences whatsoever from the bedding of the underground prison.
