I have been practicing many of the things JMC suggests in this book, but often I don’t feel like I am doing them well. I think slowing down everywhere in my life will help me do them better. Sabbath is really hard if you are going all the time and the suddenly stop: of course you are gonna feel like you crashed and burned. But this book also made me want to read more on how to do the sabbath well and how to sit in silence well because I have been experimenting alot and would like some more wisdom. It wasn't the response he expected, but it was--and continues to be--the answer he needs. Too often we treat the symptoms of toxicity in our modern world instead of trying to pinpoint the cause. A growing number of voices are pointing at hurry, or busyness, as a root of much evil. To be one of Jesus’ talmidim is to apprentice under Jesus. Put simply, it’s to organize your life around three basic goals: I have absolutely no idea what it means. But it means something, I know. As he said it, I felt my soul tremor under God. But what is God saying to me? The general idea of the book is nice, however, I found some of the examples of how to be mindful kind of unrealistic and hard to actually do.So not resign, more like demote myself. I want to lead one church at a time. Novel concept, right? My dream is to slow down, simplify my life around abiding. Walk to work. I want to reset the metrics for success, I say. I want to focus more on who I am becoming in apprenticeship to Jesus. Can I do that?
