Description

I was a bit skeptical when I first tried Aesir filters, but I was sold after that first brew. The coffee’s clarity and taste were seriously impressive. The idea behind the Prismo is to hold the coffee inside the AeroPress chamber until a certain pressure threshold is reached.

Before pressing your brew, the valve is in the closed position, which stops the flow of your brew into your cup. So, now that I have my new Prismo attached and some fresh coffee beans ground down to a very fine grind (number 1-2 on the OXO burr grinder are the best settings I’ve found so far), I’m ready to brew espresso style coffee. The inverted method has its downside; it’s precarious. Instead of standing on its solid base, the AeroPress is upside down and balanced on the top of the plunger, not exactly a situation you want when boiling water is involved. Levy, S. (2015, March 16). Aeropress's Flow control filter cap is compatible with both metal and paper filters as standard, whether you want to use them individually or together. With this cap, you'll be able to channel your inner barista and whip up some espresso-like crema or even experiment with coarser-ground coffee . Fellow Prismo Compatible With Shot Glasses — Valve aperture allows you to brew directly into sturdy shot glasses, rather than having to brew into a larger server first. This product includes: To be clear, the latter aren’t outright flaws so much as limitations. Whether they’re deal-breakers to you all depends on your expectations. What you’ll like most about the Prismo Yes, it can make delicious quasi-espresso Cleaning the Fellow Prismo attachment is more complex than cleaning the AeroPress alone, but I don’t think this should dissuade you from buying it. It’s an inevitable consequence of using a reusable filter rather than disposable paper. You can’t just toss the filter in the trash; from an environmental standpoint, that’s a good thing. For starters, what’s a micron, you ask? A micron, also known as a micrometer, is a unit of length that is one thousandth of a millimetre. As to how to accomplish that…I wish I knew. In fact, it might be so complicated that Fellow’s engineers already considered it and promptly scratched it off the list. Let's get into the nitty-gritty of how these both work . The secret sauce behind the Flow Control Filter Cap and the Prismo is its pressure-sensitive valve. When you're ready to brew, the valve stays closed until you apply pressure by pressing down on the AeroPress plunger. The Fellow Prismo is a pressure-actuated attachment for the AeroPress. It makes full immersion espresso-style coffee, without needing to use the inverted method. Use with All Your Favourite Coffee-based Recipes: Use the Fellow Prismo to upgrade your favourite coffee-based recipes, including espresso-style, Americano, full immersion, cold brew, hot or iced tea, and many more!

Brewed coffee contains a very small amount of flavorful, aromatic oils. Paper filters partially absorb them, but they pass right through metal filters and into your cup. You might perceive it as more body and sweetness, although it depends highly on the beans and the grind. To make delicious cold brew using the Prismo, you’ll need to use the inverted method. What?!? “But you don’t need to use the inverted method with the Prismo!”. I know, I know. If you’re expecting something like what you’d get at your local coffee shop then the short answer is no. You just can’t replicate the amount of pressure that an espresso machine produces. But, with the Prismo you can make a concentrated dose of coffee that’s surprisingly close—if you follow the detailed instructions on how to do it. It will grind more efficiently at espresso fineness (like the Prismo needs) and will give you better brews with all other methods, too. There’s no adjustmentBut for espresso-style brews, I do recommend preheating the AeroPress by letting it sit with boiling water for about a minute. The difference isn’t huge, but with so little thermal mass, we want to retain every degree we can.

I have seen some users compare the Flow Control Filter Cap favorably to the Prismo. Allegedly, it’s more suitable for use in conjunction with paper filters, offers better sealing, and compatibility with smaller cups. The nozzle design prevents choking and clogging, allowing for a more convincing espresso-like drink. However, the standard filters often produce a slightly muddy cup if you ask me. This is called “turbidity” by scientifically inclined coffee geeks. After more than a year, I find that I use it a lot more than I expected to. In fact, I almost never use the original piece that came with the Aeropress because the Prismo can do a full immersion brew without the hassle of the inverted method. I also like to switch between metal and paper to see how it affects the taste of the same coffee beans. The espresso-like coffee made by Prismo makes an excellent starting point for a latte or other milk-based drink. In this context, it’s difficult to tell the difference between a real espresso shot. The robust and full-bodied shots brewed by the Prismo have the bold flavour and mouthfeel needed to hold up to the addition of sweet, creamy dairy. If you have a milk frother at home and don’t want to buy an espresso machine, the Prismo is a perfect low-cost option for cafe-style drinks. But in the spirit of getting more from less, I’d love to see it happen. There’s only one filter optionTamp the coffee grounds with a coffee tamper that can fit inside your AeroPress chamber. If you don’t have a suitable tamper, put a paper filter on the end of the plunger. Push it into the chamber all the way to the bottom. If you happen to have a 3D printer or have a friend who does, you can even print your own AeroPress coffee tamper!.
