If you’re an owner of a middle-sized or large lawn, consider the VonHaus 2-in-1 model. Powered by electricity, it will make an easy job of taking care of your lawn, requiring no elbow grease from you. Ready for the big guns? If you have a large lawn or your soil is particularly compacted, an aerator machine is your best bet. Aerating is only supposed to be done a couple of times a year, in spring or Autumn, so you have to ask yourself if it is worth spending a lot of money on something that you will not be using all that often.

If taking care of your lawn is what you really enjoy doing, we suggest that you consider the ZDTec lawn aerator. With this tool, making chores a pleasure has become more than real. The ZDTech is yet another model that stands apart from classy aerators with rollers, wheels, and push handles. A pair of laced lawn shoes you should wear over your other boots while walking across the lawn, it will do a great job on aerating the lawn while you'll be able to enjoy a breath of fresh air. While they’re not great for large lawns, aerator shoes can be a nifty tool for smaller gardens in need of aeration. The one to one and a half-inch spikes of the shoes work well in small patches, though you must think about where you’re walking when wearing them in your garden. These shoes could easily wreak havoc on a small yard if not used in an organised fashion. The verdict is out regarding the efficacy of liquid aerator. At any rate, why add chemicals to your soil when you don’t really need to? We love hearing from you. If you have any further questions about aerating (or anything else lawn-related), get in touch, and we’ll gladly help!

Mow your grass as short as possible. However, never cut more than a ⅓ of the grass blade’s length to avoid stressing the plants. The size of your lawn will play a big part in what kind of aerator you should buy. If you only have a small area to deal with, then a hollow tine aerator can give you great holes before you get too tired. It would be worth taking a look at our article on aerating your lawn for more information. In terms of storage, the design is very practical. The handles are foldable, as well as height adjustable, and the grass bag can be removed. At 11.5 kg, it’s reasonably lightweight and easy to move around.

As it is easy to guess from its name, this tool doubles as a lawn aerator and a scarifier thanks to the two interchangeable attachments that come in the box. The 16-tine scarifying roller not only allows you to remove thatch and moss from your lawn but also helps better air and water penetration by making deep holes in the soil. The aerating roller, in turn, comes equipped with 20 spikes that help clean the lawn from leaves, moss, and other debris. The debris is neatly collected into a 40-litre bag for further disposal. The gist of it is that human feet are just too small. A shoe doesn’t impact enough space on the ground to make a difference truly, and the spikes on the shoes can serve to compact your already suffering soil further. You could, of course, hire someone to aerate your lawn for you. But where’s the fun in that? Are you ready to get aerating? Or do you have more questions? Assembly takes just 15 minutes and it comes with a 28 L grass bag as well as a generous 10 m cable. The power cable is bright orange which means it is visible in the grass as well. It has 30 metal spikes in total, which are each 45 mm long, and works well to aerate moist ground. Alongside this, the rolling lawn aerator is 30 cm wide, so it’s narrow enough to manoeuvre around smaller areas. As a result, this is one of the best aerators for small gardens.Powered aerators can aerate a large lawn in a relatively short time, with minimal effort from your side. But if you’ve used a mechanical solution, you’ll be left with a bit of a messy lawn surface. Clean up the mess Harder clay soils also needed to be aerated at least annually because of the difficulty with which this type of soil absorbs air and water for its roots.

The 27-pound, ETL-approved de-thatcher features a single-handle, five-position depth control, from less than half an inch below the soil to just under half an inch above. This way you can be sure you set the machine to remove what you want removed and not an entire swath of sod. The scarifying blade is pre-attached, but you also can swap out a rake attachment (included, but you need an adjustable wrench). The handles require minimal assembly, with included hardware. Priced sensibly, I wasn’t expecting much quality-wise, but the BMC Lawn Aerator isn’t at all what I would call flimsy. The metal roller and prongs all seem to be strong and robust and they do exactly what they are supposed to- poke neat holes in the grass and soil without tearing it up. The rest of the product is of slightly lower quality, as is expected of budget tools, but there was nothing to get me worried and I’m sure anyone would get their money’s worth out of this lawn aerator. Changing from one roller to another is fairly straightforward and can be done by using the supplied Allen key which can be attached to the handle for safe keeping and to keep it handy. They are simple, cheap and work really well if you get a decent pair and the only thing that lets them down is that they require you to walk around the garden for quite a long time and it can be quite tiring – from my perspective as I mention above it’s a great opportunity for exercise and clearing a chore. I like the look of the ABREOME Lawn Aerator Shoes. Fork aerators will hollow tines

Rolling Lawn Aerator | Lawn Aerator Roller | Push Aerator

This model has a powerful 1500 W motor and its scarifying function is very effective. It removes a large amount of thatch and dead grass from the lawn. The aerating roller isn’t quite as effective, though it will work well on lawns requiring more serious maintenance. The aerator churns up the grass, so it isn’t as practical to use on lawns that are already reasonably healthy. Even though the penetration isn’t that deep, it will still help the surface drain water and get some air and nutrients to the grass roots. But probably the best feature about lawn aerator shoes is that you achieve very dense spike patterns, which gives you a thorough aeration, and you can carry out another lawn care activity at the same time, like spraying weeds or applying a fertiliser. If your grass has turned brown, there’s a chance that the oxygen/carbon dioxide levels within your soil have lost their natural balance. Compacted soil holds onto its carbon dioxide, produced as a natural result of photosynthesis – so aerating helps restore that balance. Aeration for sunlight All other kinds of soil need aeration only once every three years, though be sure to keep an eye on your lawn, as unhealthy, growth-stunted grass is usually a sign that it needs aeration.
