Description

We now have the set images and prices for the upcoming LEGO DC Comics 30653 Batman 1992 Polybag Set 2023 set. The polybag offering also features a microscale version of the portals that Doctor Strange creates, together with a pretty clever micro build to give perspective on what’s on the other side of the portal. This small but mighty Polybag is perhaps the highlight of my year so far and perhaps that of many ither AFOLs ( adult fan of LEGO). It contains a Batman Minifigure with the very rare and sought-after Moulded Cape piece, only ever seen in 2 previous (pricey) sets.

That’s if this set exists at all: while usually reliable, third-party retailers have been known to get things wrong before, so don’t get your hopes up until we get official confirmation from the LEGO Group. It may be a little hard to find, as polybag distributions aren’t the most consistent, but if you manage to spot one at your local LEGO Store, or if you’re in the US and are close to a Target or Barnes & Noble, I’d definitely recommend getting this, especially if you plan on skipping the Batcave Shadow Box.

Summary

The LEGO Marvel Doctor Strange’s Interdimensional Portal (30652) polybag comes in at 44 pieces. It features a minifigure version of Doctor Strange that can also be found on other Multiverse of Madness sets, such as the Gargantos Showdown (76205) and the Sanctum Sanctorum (76218). However, the moulded detail on the combined cape and cowl element remains unaltered, with sharp lines around the eyes and texture on the cape. The transition between the cowl and the cape looks particularly striking, as the material appears to change. Furthermore, the shape of the cape works perfectly for a minifigure on display, as though billowing in the wind. I found the Batman 1992 (30653) polybag at Toys R Us. My local store had no shortage of them and I bought more than one. Who knows? Maybe I’ll do a giveaway in the future when the product retires and becomes hard to find. In any case, while most of the Summer 2023 Batman sets hit store shelves in August, this one is out now along with the Batcave Shadowbox. From what I can tell in the images, the Shadowbox Batman minifigure is the same as the polybag version. Both differ from the Batman minifigs coming in August, which look more like a standard Batman minifig with some ’89-esque printing. Polybag Specifics

Even though build time is not really a thing with this polybag, you nonetheless get a small structure to assemble. It is a little display base for Batman. The gargoyle on it is identical to those on the display bases for the 1989 Batmobile, the 1989 Batwing, and the Batmobile Tumbler. Consequently they display well near each other. However, they do not connect, which would be a neat feature. You can modify them easily enough so they all line up though. This particular base would look better if it had a consistent look and texturing all around. With that said this is certainly a nice display base. Let’s go with 90% for the build. Batman 1992 on your left, Batman 1989 on your right. MINIFIGURE: 97% Keep an eye on your local LEGO or other hobby stores if you wish to be the first to have this LEGO Marvel Doctor Strange 2023 polybag. More updates on this polybag coming soon. Earlier this year, I published a review of 30652 Doctor Strange's Interdimensional Portal and commented that the most satisfying polybags include a desirable minifigure beside a creative model. 30653 Batman 1992 is an excellent example, especially for the minifigure, which is only available in 76252 Batcave - Shadow Box, outside this polybag. The big drawcard of course is the 1992 Batman minifigure, which has only featured in two sets before this polybag (and the Batcave Shadowbox), 761390 1989 Batmobile and 76161 1989 Batwing which were 2 very large and expensive sets. Last week, it was revealed that a new LEGO Marvel polybag featuring the MCU’s version of the Sorcerer Supreme will hit store shelves soon. And this time around, we now have confirmation of where you can find the latest LEGO Marvel Doctor Strange’s Interdimensional Portal (30652) polybag in your area. It’s small, but a really usable and practical build as it serves as a nice little display pedestal for Batman. Each of these small sets has had its own theme, often drawing inspiration from the seasons. In the case of winter, we now have the privilege of seeing a second polybag offering. This set stands out from its predecessor, the LEGO Winter Wonderland VIP expansion set 40514 from 2021, with its distinctive composition and fewer Trans-Light Blue elements for crafting icy landscapes. It’s incredible that this relatively rare and expensive cowl is now available in a polybag that’s about the same price as a latte (or even cheaper, depending on where you live), which is a big step in making one of the most interesting and unique Batman cowls accessible to the masses. The small section of wall Batman perches on is similar in style to the longer plinth found in the now retired Batmobile (76139) set. The corner-section is smart with a lot of architectural detail crammed into such a small space. The use of inverted slopes to break up the flat wall elements.

LEGO fans have much to look forward to with the upcoming release of the LEGO Winter Fun VIP Add-on 40610. This unique promotional offering adds more fun to your LEGO winter collection and promises to spur your imagination to build more holiday-themed creations. This exclusive assortment boasts a menagerie of animals, an array of minifigure accessories, and a treasure trove of versatile pieces, including a duo of enchanting purple space helmets, medieval armor helmets, and a magician’s cap. The Gargoyle design is pretty clever, and it’s repurposed from the display stands from 76240 Batmobile Tumbler, 761390 1989 Batmobile and 76161 1989 Batwing. It’s Batman, and while DC has been languishing in the last few years, I’m really glad polybags like 30653 Batman 1992 still exist as cost-effective ways for those on a budget to get their hands on sought-after characters, and it’s not hyperbolic to say that this is one of the best polybags of 2023. There’s also a clip on the model, which seems like an errant element, but could possibly hint at more rooftop sections to come featuring more Batman characters, hopefully in this affordable polybag format too.

If you recall, the new LEGO Creator polybags included in this upcoming March release were already revealed earlier this January, with the exception of the Quidditch Practice and McLaren Solus GT. Likewise, the VIP Rewards Center is also loaded with LEGO Star Wars sweepstakes and rewards to celebrate the occasion. Be sure to join the raffle and get your chance to get these exclusive prizes. Each raffle entry and reward has a required number of VIP points. Sterling Silver R2-D2 (50 LEGO VIP points required per raffle entry) After revealing a nice and cost-effective way to have an MCU-inspired LEGO Doctor Strange minifigure a few days ago, fans of these collectibles will be glad to know that there are more LEGO polybags 2023 that will arrive any time soon. And yes, in case you were wondering, the minifigure is identical to the Batman from 76252 Batcave Shadow Box, which is pretty insane when you think about it.

The Legacy of LEGO VIP Add-on Gift-With-Purchase Packs

Polybags are great, they’re extremely affordable and make for a great entry point into the World of LEGO. Here’s a great way to have the minifigure version of the MCU’s Sorcerer Supreme added to your collection without breaking the bank. Referencing the penultimate film of the MCU Phase Four franchise, the LEGO Marvel Doctor Strange 2023 polybag takes its inspiration from The Multiverse of Madness and the many interdimensional portals that Strange uses in the film. While the minifigure is undoubtedly the highlight of this polybag, the base for Batman to stand should not be overlooked. This model is intended to portray the corner of a building in Gotham City, from where the Dark Knight can surveil his targets. I like the contrast between Batman and the grey structure underneath, as well as the winged grotesque, which is close to those on the minifigure stand in 76139 1989 Batmobile. Batman stands at an angle, fitted on a 1x2 rounded plate. The position of the minifigure looks great, but the rounded plate can easily be detached accidentally when removing Batman. The base is otherwise faultless though and there is even a clip for another Batarang, although I am not sure why this is necessary. I don’t tend to touch much LEGO Ninjago related stuff, although I do appreciate their creativity and great looking sets, it’s just I’m not that into it as a theme.
