He is perfect. Eve – perfect? To me she is – some might find her a little bit brash and unapproachable, she finds it hard to make friends, she is not a fan of socialising or fashion (as I said, she is perfect to me). But once she earns your trust she is a friend for life. Eve and Roarke, Roarke and Eve – who is my favourite - hard to say – I want to be Eve and I want to be married to Roarke …

The quality of the writing is still great, still very visual; but the characters have stopped resonating... I suppose its fair to say that this series and this author isn't relatable anymore. McNabb, Morris, Reo, Summerset, etc. are all here. We had Nadine at three points in the book, I mostly skipped over her. She's another one I wouldn't be sad at having a reduced role in the books. She's still somehow a super journalist with her own t.v. show and also is writing Oscar winning screenplays and oh yeah books. I cannot. Note: "stunner" and "laser" are both terms used interchangeably for the fictional weapons that the NYPSD carry in the In Death books; they release a strong electrical, laser-like stun that can do anything from incapacitating to killing the victim. a b c Robb, J.D. (2000). "Chapter Twenty". Judgment in Death. Penguin Publishing Group. ISBN 9781101203798. Mavis is Eve's best and first real friend. The two met when Eve arrested her for being a con artist and they ended up becoming friends. Mavis is described as a tiny, pale woman who radically changes her appearance daily, sporting different lengths, styles, and colors of hair with often matching or contrasting eye color. She has an almost innocent personality which belies the very real street knowledge she possesses; she is also very loyal to Eve.It hardly matters if it is Nora Roberts you are reading or if it is J.D. Robb. You will be delighted. You will enjoy your romantic suspense married with crime and mystery regardless. The In Death book series takes you into the near future and stimulates all your emotions with aplomb like only J.D. Robb can. Broadway and Hollywood megastars Eliza Lane & Brant Fitzhugh are hosting a party, celebrating the occasion of her return to Broadway in the revival of the play the launched her career. Everyone who’s important in the theater and film community are there to commemorate the event with rehearsals beginning the next day and Brant leaving to begin a new vid project. As Eliza and her co-star breakout into an impromptu duet, Brant raises a toast to her and then collapses, dying seconds later of apparent poisoning. It’s a scene of chaos that Lieutenant Eve Dallas and partner Detective Delia Peabody enter into with the monumental task of determining who’s lying and who’s telling the truth among a sea of skilled actors. I was late to the game in reading the “In Death” series … was always putting it off: not even sure why – well, I was sort of sure why. Roarke is Irish I am always wary of all things “Irish” in books … I find the Irish characters are parodied a bit in literature and it annoys me. Started "Naked in Death" in 2012 (it was first published in 1995) so 17 years after it’s first publication. Another factor that put me off a bit was the fact that it was set in the ‘future’, the mid-21st century. BUT, after reading book one, I was hooked.

This one kept me interested all the way through. I read and listened to it – love the narrator, Susan Erikson.

Little, Denise, & Hayden, Laura, The Official Nora Roberts Companion (New York: Berkley, 2003). ISBN 0-425-18344-0 After fifty six books Robb is still finding new ways and new places for her characters to die. I really admire her creativity. Of course she bases all the action around her established team of Eve and Roarke and friends who are probably the real reason most of us keep on reading the books!

Naked in Death centered on an NYPD Lieutenant by the name Eve Dallas. The story of this book takes place in the year 2058—not too distant a future—in NYC. Roberts, Nora (18 April 2014). "Eve And Roarke With No Body". Fall Into The Story . Retrieved 7 December 2017. So, no babies, not now. No charming orphans of any age. No pregnancy scares, no miscarriages, no foundlings, no street-wise kid who needs a good home. Did I leave anything out? If so, fill it in, then answer no.... I'm sorry some readers are disappointed I'm not taking the series and the characters in this direction, but I'm not. Repeat: I. Am. Not. The readers who insist on telling me why this could/should work are wasting their time. I don't agree, and I write the books. If investigators everywhere used their "instincts" like that, God help the innocents who get caught in the cross-fire. The prose is well-written and engaging. The plot is thought-provoking and tragic. While this book has some action, it is mostly a police procedural. Robb usually manages to weave humor in her novels, providing some much needed levity to offset some of the more serious and grim aspects of the story. The humor manages to bring out Eve’s personality. Everything from phrases she doesn’t understand, to her reactions to the loud clothing worn by her colleagues and to a candy thief make her more relatable. The author brings strong characters, great plots, wonderful relationships, and excellent pacing to the series. Woven through the novel are threads of caring for others, friendship, relationships, ego, glamour, careers, leadership, and trust. It seems like the author wrote herself into a dead-end, then used the investigators "instinct" to force fit another central character into the role of the killer and finally edited in a bunch of cues and clues in the first chapter to tie it together.

Robb, J.D. "FAQ". J.D.ROBB. When will Eve and Roarke have a baby? Nora has said repeatedly that a baby would signal the end of the series. In her opinion, a baby changes everything (for the better) and the focus of the series would change radically. In no way does this mean Nora thinks a mother can't be an excellent police officer (or attorney or any other type of professional). It does mean that many of the things readers love about Eve and Roarke's life together would change (i.e., leaving home for hours on end only to return to continue working in their home offices). I enjoyed the way Robb was able to keep me in the dark for most of the novel before revealing the identity of the killer. Not only was this perfectly executed but the ideas in her stories as well as her characters remain fresh and unique. So who is J.D. Robb? Well, she’s Nora Roberts, of course. J.D. Robb is her nom de plume which she used for this series as she and Berkley (one of her publishers) decided to publish the works so that they have no relation to Nora Roberts and her storytelling style. So, though we know it is the same person, this series is essentially the work of a completely different author. It was a glittering event full of A-listers, hosted by Eliza Lane and Brant Fitzhugh, a celebrity couple who’d conquered both Hollywood and Broadway. And now Eve Dallas has made her entrance—but not as a guest. After raising a toast, Fitzhugh fell to the floor and died, with physical symptoms pointing to cyanide, and the police have crashed the party. mix of sarin and sulfur trioxide (drugged, then convinced to handle improperly sealed nerve gas egg)

This book is the straw that breaks my personal value for money equation - the reason I stop reading JD Robb, 20 years after I started, with "Seduction in death" in 2002. Great installment of In Death. Thank goodness there wasn't a master serial killer wanting to spar with Eve. Book started a little dry, but then got really good. Really liked this. I liked the murder(s) and the why too. Just solid police work in this one. Also reduced Nadine time (thankfully) and reduced house decoration conversations (thankfully). Please lets stop with the movie syndication stuff.Because Naked in Death was somewhat popular, seven other books of the In Death series were spawned. The story of Eve Dallas was well worth the read—and worth telling across various other books. Not only does Eve Dallas have a fierce, fierce heart, she also has strength and the utmost integrity. Her increasingly mushrooming relationship with Roarke, a man of mystifying fellow, is also a big talking point. In Encore in Death Eve and Roarke are still in a happy place with lots of love and humour and no cross words. Galahad gets lots of treats. Peabody is still in heaven as she designs her new home. All is right with the world apart from that dratted candy thief who defeats all of Eve's attempts at hiding her chocolate bars. Another detective from Homicide. Baxter enjoys teasing Eve about anything he can, usually relating to her relationship with Roarke and associated changes; despite this teasing Roarke views Baxter as a solid cop and easygoing person. Brant Fitzhugh and Eliza Lane - A-listers whose glittering careers saw them rich beyond anyone's dreams. Their marriage was almost ten years long and the party in their apartment was one of both farewell to Brant as he headed to New Zealand the following day for six months, and Eliza as the revival of the stage play of twenty five years ago was due to begin again. Two hundred guests, along with staff, surrounded the pair, but when Eliza and her on-screen daughter Samantha began to sing, to perform, Brant toasted his wife with her champagne. His death was swift - Lieutenant Eve Dallas and Detective Peabody arrived soon after. Mira is the resident psychiatrist and profiler for the NYPSD. She has several children with her husband, Dennis, and has grandchildren as well. She is a pretty and feminine woman whom Eve often consults on her cases. Eve loves Charlotte very much but has not admitted it to her face; nevertheless, Charlotte knows. Charlotte thinks of Eve as a daughter, a fact which annoyed Mira's own daughter at one point, and throughout the series has gotten Eve to open up to her more and more.
