Description

Double prams can be very bulky and generally measure up to around 82cm in width. But with standard external doorways measuring around 76 to 96cm, most double buggies will fit through doors. However, there are slimmer options available that will cope with most small spaces. Side-by-side double buggies tend to be wider than the average pram so may not be suitable for public transport or small car boots. They often have roomy storage baskets though and can be folded easily, but if you have an older child who often wants to walk, the second seat will sit empty. Most are suitable from birth or you may be able to attach an infant carrycot or car seat. Tandem (inline) double buggy

The buggy can be used from birth with a carrycot, however it’s not suitable for twins until six months. You also have to pay extra for a carrycot and rain cover. Straight out of the box, it was the easiest to assemble and to switch between attachments, and (joy!) it folds down one-handed for neat storage. To say I’m malcoordinated and useless with instructions would be an understatement, and this was among the only models that didn’t fray my nerves when on the move and converting between modes. Other handy features include a handlebar that you can adjust according to your height, a removable bumper bar and ShoeSaver brakes. We also love the size of the sun canopy and the roomy basket. Cybex’s new ORFEO pushchair is designed for travel with your tot, sporting an ultra-compact, hand-luggage-compatible size. It can be easily folded and stored in any overhead compartment, while boasting an ergonomic lie-flat recline and adjustable leg rest. In terms of longevity, Cybex says that it can be used from birth (with the addition of the newborn nest or compatible car seat) to approximately four years old – although this will largely depend on your child’s height. This pram was tested with a very tall 20-month-year old passenger and his legs did dangle off the seat a little already.

Suitable from: Birth to 22kg (around four years) | Weight: 11.7kg (chassis and seat) | Folded dimensions: 86 x 36 x 65cm | World-facing: Yes | Parent-facing: Yes | Car seat compatible: Yes | Wheels: Rubber, foam-filled tyres | Carrycot included? No - only as part of a bundle What we like Babies shouldn't sit in car seats for more than two hours at a time, and car seats shouldn't be used for sleeping. Don't worry if your baby nods off in the car – just make sure she doesn't sit in it for too long. This versatile 4-in-1 pushchair can be used in multiple modes. The lie-flat pushchair seat can be used rear-facing or parent-facing, and you can attach the Joie ramble™ XL carrycot or a compatible infant carrier car seat – both sold separately. We like the height-adjustable handlebar, built-in carry strap, and the fact that it's freestanding when folded – handy for storing it in the hallway. What sets it apart from its competitors though is that it’s one of the best pushchairs to buy for a growing family. It easily transforms from a single pushchair to a double buggy. You’ll need to buy adapters and accessories for this, but it offers the flexibility that most families looking to eventually expand will need. I also have the Versatrax and love it. I have a Mini and it fits into the boot no problem - really easy to fold. I have used since newborn with adapters for the carrycot/car seat and now using the actual pram. I think it looks lovely as well. I am a foot shorter than my DH and the handle is adjustable enough to be at a comfortable height for both of us” - recommended by Mumsnet user, summerlovingvibes Our verdict

This stylish travel system is available to buy as a complete bundle consisting of the pushchair frame with seat unit (which can be parent-facing or front-facing) and carrycot, as well as a changing bag and cosy foot muff. It also comes with rain covers, car seat adaptors (so you can easily attach a car seat to the chassis) and elevator adaptors, which allow you to position the parent-facing seat closer to you. It folds compactly compared to other travel systems, which is handy for fitting it neatly in your car boot or storing it at home when it's not in use. We tested the Peach with the carrycot and as a forward-facing pushchair. We assembled it hassle-free, since the instructions actually made sense (for once we didn’t need to resort to a YouTube video) and the newborn happily nodded off cocooned in the plush olive-green bassinet. The mattress comes with a breathable mesh - perfect for safe sleep on the go.A double version of the Thule Urban Glide 2, this specialist side-by-side buggy is designed with active parents in mind. There are some natty design features, like the adjustable footrest hiding a handy sun-shade and the ventilation net hidden behind the UPF 50 + hood. Improvements over the original Egg include larger, higher seat, easier-to-adjust harness, bigger basket size (although I would like even bigger) and new bigger wheels. With additional parts, it can also be converted into a tandem buggy. Cleanliness: we wanted to know what the pram is like to clean. We carried out a cleanliness test to see how well the fabric coped when juice was spilled and how easily mud came off.

Suitable from: Birth to 22kg (around four years) | Weight: 11.5kg | Folded dimensions: 87 x 69 x 34cm | World-facing: Yes | Parent-facing: Yes (with carrycot) | Car seat compatible: Yes | Wheels: Air-filled tyres | Carrycot included? No, only as part of a bundle What we like The frame is light and compact, with an extendable handle and swivel wheels for easy navigation and for hopping on and off public transport. The fold can be done one-handed and is petite enough to store in a small car boot. Measuring just 66.5cm wide and weighing in at only 10.5kg, it’s very much geared towards urban life, fitting through most doorways with the ability to be wheeled in and out of your home. The Babyzen YOYO² is the latest update to the incredibly popular original. The main selling point of the YOYO² is its super-light design, which can be stored in the smallest of spaces (such as a cupboard, a small car boot or overhead aeroplane compartment), and is also easy to fold down or flip out again while carrying a child. Flexible and oh-so-trendy, the Nuna Mixx Next is comfort and style rolled into one. It’s the third generation in the range, an update on the Nuna Mixx 2019, which features a new, more compact fold and improved suspension for a smoother ride. The Egg2 can be used with both a carrycot and car seat for newborns, but the main seat unit also has a lie-flat recline. The carrycot is both cosy and comfortable and super lightweight to lift off the chassis. It is a brilliant pushchair and even when dd1 was 6-7 and having a moment, she could sit in it and be pushed around. Massive seat" - recommended by Mumsnet user, user1471530109 Our verdict While this pram is brilliant as it comes, you can customise it depending on your needs, with add-ons including a foot muff, Isofix base for the YoYo car seat, and a buggy board. We used it while abroad in sunnier climes with the detachable parasol, which worked brilliantly over a few days of sightseeing. And it took up barely any space in our suitcase. The folding mechanism is fairly simple to get to grips with and, when folded, the buggy is compact and easy to store, both in a car boot and at home.

Ideal for twins or children of different ages who like to interact with one another, although most designs also allow you to recline the seats independently. A travel system that is both stylish and functional, we think the Nuna Mixx Next is the best pushchair to buy right now. With a reversible seat, the option to add a car seat or a carrycot, large wheels for pushing over any terrain and an easy fold, this pram is versatile and easy to use. The sleek design and plentiful storage also make this a Our tester Liz says, “It’s absolutely brilliant in every way, except it's too big to store easily in the car as the wheels have to come off. If space isn't an issue for you (for example, if you can store it in a garage), it's perfect.” Key specs – Age range: Suitable for 0 months to 22kg; Wheels: All-terrain wheels; Folded dimensions: 83.5 x 51.5 x 31.5cm; Unfolded dimensions: 92-83 x 60 x 98.5-108cm; Weight: 12.6kgThe Fox is a pram that has consistently been named as a favourite among mums I spoke to. My expert Millie counts herself a ‘die-hard fan’. I had my issues with its the Fox 3, which was fiddly to assemble, fold and adjust, but have been completely won over by its successor, the Fox 5.
