Description

Greg's idea of a perfect summer holiday is to sit indoors and play computer games but for some reason his Mum thinks fresh air and 'family togetherness' are a much better plan. When her new school organises a talent contest, Dot's pretty sure that class bully Laura is up to something. She's worried it could ruin everything for timid Amy - who's finally signed up to sing. Dotty’s real name is Dorothy Constable Marie Louise but she very much prefers her alternative name Dotty. Dotty is just like any other ordinary girl, but one day she needed to move house as well as move to a new school. As Dotty moves to her new school, she is very concerned about being in this new unfamiliar place and with no friends, will she be able to enjoy her new education. Despite her concerns, Dotty makes lots of new friends yet some do not wish to be friends with Dotty. In particular one student called Laura, she and her friends are plotting an evil plan to win the school talent show in a terrible way. Meet Dot, a lively little girl who's big on solving mysteries, in this fun and sparky chapter book about friendship, laughter and spreading a bit of kindness.

I like this book because it is funny and it is written by one of my favourite authors, Clara Vulliamy. This book is set as a diary and I would recommend this book for bookworms aged 7-11 who love funny mystery stories. I would like to read the rest of the series which has not yet been published. I look forward to reading the series when it is published. With the help of her best friend Beans and her dog McClusky, Dot loves to sniff out a good mystery... Will Dot, McClusky and Dots friends be able to help Amy overcome her nervous shyness and will they be able to solve the mystery surrounding the talent show and the constant whirring noise they can hear. Is there even a mystery or is it just a big misunderstanding? As soon as Dotty Detective Super Secret Agent came through the letterbox my daughter whisked away this cute little book with its sparkly, spotty cover and started to read. She was hooked and couldn’t put the book down, “This is so interesting Mummy,” she said more than once and after finishing the first book she immediately asked if there was another one. I sneaked the second one, Dotty Detective The Paw Print Puzzle, into her bag when we went on holiday so she had a surprise read for the flight. Now she’s eagerly awaiting the third book, The Midnight Mystery, which will be published at the beginning of next year. While Dotty and Beans are investigating the mysterious goings on in Dotty’s flat they are also preparing for a space themed assembly at school which may not be able to take place as the ‘space helmets’ have disappeared. Is there are logical explanation to their disappearance or does it have something to do with the twins and the missing vegetables? From the world’s favourite author, David Walliams – ten cautionary tales and a delightfully dreadful cast of characters; all in glorious FULL COLOUR! It’s summer vacation, the weather’s great, and all the kids are having fun outside. So where’s Greg Heffley? Inside his house, playing video games with the shades drawn. Dot, her best friend Beans and her dog McClusky all love sniffing out a good mystery and together they will solve the case and save the day . It’s the last week of school term and the children are looking forward to the School summer fair. Dotty and best pal Beans will be looking after pet’s corner, starring McClusky and his two canine pals: Geoffrey and the little sausage dog puppy, Chipolata. But just days before the fair disaster strikes – Chipolata has gone missing. Dotty and Beans get on the case. Can they solve the mystery of the missing puppy. Welcome to The Nothing to See Here Hotel! A hotel for magical creatures, where weird is normal for Frankie Banister and his parents who run the hotel. This series is very fun and the style of the book is unique, written in like a diary stylised format. A wonderful series for readers of ages 7+, who are interested in funny mystery genres. Dotty and her friend Beans are also investigating other mysteries like weird disappearances of items in their house. Dotty is portrayed as a solid and forward looking character, she is constantly put to the test through difficult situations yet her character is always overcoming these makes it an engaging and existing story for readers, especially motivational for young readers. Some of the things that Dotty is interested in are stationary tools, shoes and vegetable peas…

Authors / Illustrators I find it really interesting to hear what authors and illustrators enjoy reading or have enjoyed reading with children. In this category you will find recommendations written by authors and illustrators along with books that they have written and / or illustrated. With the help of McClusky and new pal Beans, Dot sets about solving the mystery - plus the strange goings-on at home. Why do things keep disappearing? The Story: After a visit to the farm park strange things start happening in Dotty’s flat – odd noises, a strange atmosphere and spooky feelings. Beans suspects a ghost and then McClusky and the twins start behaving strangely. Fruit and vegetables go missing and McClusky starts guarding the cupboard in the hallway. Mum is worried that her birthday party will have to be cancelled because of McClusky’s behaviour. Can Dotty and Beans solve the mystery before the party? The story unfolds through short diary entries, always in Dot's excited voice. (She's excited about stationery, shoes and even peas - to name just a few things.)
