There was one bash he threw in his New York loft apartment a few years ago, with German producer Boys Noize on DJing duty, that proved particularly memorable after it was raided by police. On the plus side, it helped him to write a record that would capture his life in that moment. The book covers the years from 1999 to 2006, and initially Shears wrote a “very personal” afterword to bring the book to the present. But, with recent years feeling too raw, he put it into songs instead. “The album is basically the afterword that I cut from my book”, he says. “It’s better to just sing that stuff.” There are plenty of things in my personality and my behaviour that weren’t particularly great.
