You would have to max out an M1's capabilities before an M2 is going to help at all performance-wise. I'm not sure that is possible to do in the United States at this time." After about 18 months, my Nighthawk started to jamb up, overheat and now won`t hold any charge. So, I went to the nearest Telstra Shop on the far north coast of NSW, where I was passing through at the ti ... Read more me, to get my replacement. But I was told by the Techo that they "don`t do replacement swaps anymore since COVID" and that I would need to "leave the faulty modem with them for approx. 10 - 15 days to be tested and repaired". Thorough, comprehensive testing – each battery cell is tested to ensure all safety requirements are met and that it holds and maintains the correct capacity - all before installation I have also pointed out the oversensitive power button. It switches on if it is off and you place it in a briefcase and happen to touch it. It all depends on your carrier and cell tower. Where I live in rural United States our cell towers do not support CA yet (or LAA, or 5G, etc)So now I am wondering why these modems sporting the Telstra logo are being sold to non Telstra customers ? Who's decision was that, and why? This is misrepresentation in plain sight. Now I see that lots of people have had lots of seemingly minor problems with this modem. Methinks these modems were originally intended for Telstra but were either rejected or overproduced or they are somehow not what they seem. If you buy a modem with Telstra stamped on it, why is it being sold for use by other providers? The M2 could have 5000CA. If you are not using all 4CA on the M1, the M2 will not go faster than the M1. The cell tower gives the same data pipes to the M1 and M2. I signed up with Telstra under a 36 month plan and they promised I would receive a full replacement Nighthawk on the spot anywhere in Australia, should my Nighthawk ever fail during their 36 month plan. Long-lasting, consistent performance – high-quality Lithium Polymer cells for up to 1000 charging cycles So while I agree that from a theoretical -- paper spec sheet perspective - the MR2100 is unlikely to be any faster than the MR1100 given the mismatch between theoretical capabilities of the hotspot and a carrier's actual, deployed capabilities in the field. But in reality, the MR1100 is such a dog, that many are holding out hopes that the new version will be better.

mine will last 2 days on a full battery. When it had the battery swelling issue, it was pressing on the sim card and dropping out repeatedly then that would lead to rapid loss of charge. Your battery not charging correctly, holding charge or rapid discharge seems to be a major issue. Yes Lithium Ion Fe batteries are sealed, and the off gas as a side effect of the chemical reactions when charging and discharging. That gas swells the sealed wrapper. A few people have just pierced the wrapper. My understanding that the chemistry results in rapid oxidisation of the now exposed battery compounds and theyre somewhat corrosive. It also possible that thermal regulation across the battery also becomes problematic and has a higher chance of fire. I agree, it concerns me as a possible fire risk. The nighthawk is in the center most point of my house which happens to be the top shelf of my 7 year old daughter's closet. I dont want to have a fire so I removed the battery and it is powered just by usb right now. I told the Techo I needed a modem during that time and that I am only in town for a couple of days and then moving on again. To which he replied "sorry mate, can`t help you there" and he walked off. I've tried every possible setting in the last 23 months to get the MR2100 to work properly and the best I could get was to set the APN to "yesinternet" (same as the mobile phone uses) and turn OFF the 5G Wifi. This only means that it will perform ok for a couple of weeks at most before it starts playing up again.I'm off to the ACCC to have this investigated. I didnt buy this modem to have it die on me after just 23 months and then be told "sorry its out of the 12 month warranty". This modem has never worked properly and I want to know what was the purpose of putting the Telstra logo on it? Was it to give it the appearance of sponsorship it doesn't have? Telstra also needs to either explain or disassociate itself from these modems.
