You find out how Sonny got mixed up in all of this, so it’s good to have some answers to the questions raised in the previous volume, and Remender is careful to ensure Sonny’s skills are convincing, subtly mentioning how long he’s been training in B.C. He doesn’t use captions informing the reader of how much time has passed so the passing exposition is useful to have. This vol takes readers on a journey filled with mystery and tension, yet struggles to maintain a consistently engaging pace. The narrative's slow-burn approach allows for character immersion, but when uncertainty persists without clarity, it can weigh down the experience.

Who hasn’t had a day like this: you go visit a wealthy couple only to find them brutally murdered by international assassins at the behest of the billionaire elite - and it’s raining and you don’t have a brolly! Well, time to hit the old dusty trail with a couple other targets and a buncha people with guns chasing you and hope you don’t get too wet! At the moment I have 4/5 realised issues and graphic novel is due to be out in a few weeks which I imagine will consist of the usual 4/5 issues. Knowing what I know already, I would give the graphic Rounding out the presentation is the lettering. Given the limited amount of dialogue in the book, it would be highly disappointing if the lettering managed to go astray in this story. Happily, no such failure occurs. The art throughout this book does a great job of delivering the everyday nature of the bulk of this story. All the people look and dress as one would expect. This feeling begun with the lines is further brought through with the colors. Rather than the bright, eye-catching colors we often expect from comics, most of the world is duller. This gives clothes and other objects a more lived-in or worn look to them. A man catches a bus out of the city to a rich person’s house - and finds himself in an unthinkably horrific scenario… This continues pretty much every issue, subverting expectations. There’s a lot of blood and violence, but it is punctuated with human moments that do a lot for character building. The story spans years but it is also myopic in what it’s about. There is a laser intensity and not much, though some, thematic discourse provoked. It’s really meant to be just a wild ride. And wild it is. I’ve never been to Vancouver (one day…) but it looks great here, particularly Chinatown, and the sequencing throughout is executed so perfectly that you understand exactly what’s happening in a scene - where the characters are in a room, how they move around, how they end up where they end up. This comic is a great example of the writer and artist as well-balanced storytellers, with both complementing each other’s work to best effect for the audience. Chris O’Halloran’s subtle but appealing colours also add a lot to the stunning visuals - this is one of the best-looking comics I’ve seen in a while.

Sonny and Xavier have found shelter from the international assassins after them in a hidden off-the-grid camp in British Columbia - but said assassins aren’t too far behind so they’ll only get a temporary respite… until the next one! And then they gots to run again! And… that’s the series, really. Fight, run, hide, repeat. The captivating elements of violent tragedy, crime mysteries, car chases, and shootouts add flavor to the narrative. However, the abundance of silent sequences might hinder full emotional investment in the plot's development.
