Description

What I loved was how this book shows that women achieved and continue to achieve great feats just as men did like Razan from Palestine, Khawlah Bint Al-Azwar etc and is a wonderful example of how Islam was of the first religion to give women the rights and respect they deserved. Fittingly, the book is mainly written for young Muslims who are seeking for inspiration from “their own clan”, but adults can also learn a lot from reading it, as have I while enjoying the beautiful but simple narrations. Born in Bangladesh, raised in Newcastle and currently residing in the outskirts of Manchester, Burhana Islam is a storyteller who is passionate about exploring themes of heritage, belonging, identity and faith in both her children's and YA works. In 2012, the day he had been training for arrived; Mo ran for Great Britain in the London Olympics and took home two gold medals!

And this book would be especially great to read with kids (as I think it's intended) because the bios are told in more of a story style, and there's a short activity section at the back. It is beautifully written and beautifully illustrated, with mini biographies long enough to give us the complete picture, but short enough to make it neat and concise. It’s so inspirational to see such successful Muslims in a Puffin book and I hope there will be many more books like this to come.

Saffa Khan is an artist focusing on illustration and print through DIY culture, creating tangible, self-published printed matter on the themes of identity, community, and mental health. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Some profiles were questionable - and many Muslims wouldn't consider them to be 'Amazing' but it seems like they were pushed by the Publisher and not the author. Children will be encouraged to identify new role models and be inspired to set their own goals through creative writing, art, humanities and literacy-based activities. If so, then you need this stunningly illustrated treasure trove of iconic and hidden amazing Muslim heroes!

Our team is made up of book lovers who are dedicated to sourcing and providing the best books for kids. She is also the author of THE DASTARDLY DUO (2022) and THE BIG BREAKOUT (2023), as well as the widely celebrated AMAZING MUSLIMS WHO CHANGED THE WORLD (Puffin, 2020). I will surely recommend it to any child, parent, or school looking for a good book full of historical knowledge. Some of the illustrations are better than others, and felt there was disparity in the illustrations used within each chapter, realised this was because several illustrators were used for this book. The language used in some of the stories is aimed at older children but that doesn't mean that younger children can't enjoy it. I feel guilty giving this 3 stars because im sure this book was aimed for children hich is why the language was so simple. I learned so much: there were a few people I was familiar with but not many, so I loved learning more about the people covered in the book (Noor Inayat Khan was someone I had read about before, but was so glad to read more about; and I don't think I'd heard of al-Jahiz at all, despite the fact that he was developing ideas on evolution centuries before Darwin was even born!
