Description

The Philosopher watch is a gentle reflection and minimalist tendencies that says so much more with so much less. After overthrowing Umbridge’s authority, Harry and five other students head to the Ministry of Magic to save Sirius from the Death Eaters. A huge fight ensues between the wizards, but the Death Eaters overpower the students, taking them all hostage. Before he’s taken to Azkaban, Hagrid tells Harry and Ron to follow the spiders to meet Aragog in the Forbidden Forest. The giant spider vouches for Hagrid and offers a clue about the monster, later confirmed to be a basilisk. It sets the stage with a design element that speaks of the vintage watch cases and lugs, blending that with the appeal of modern timepiece engineering.

The watch has a solid weight (3.77 ounces / 107 grams) with the 3-link strap and it strikes a great balance between its weight and comfort. The weight also adds to the feeling of quality and durability. The movement However, some people prefer the movements from Seiko or Citizen, which are of comparable quality but don’t create audible noise.

Final Thoughts On My Nordgreen Philosopher Watch Review

I am not purposefully ragging on DW, they just happen to be the most well known Scandinavian fashion watch brand and are similar price point as Nordgreen. The brand name is a blend of two words “Nord” and “green.” “Nord” represents the company’s Nordic roots and its design philosophy, which is known for functionality, simplicity, and clean lines. The Nordic design principles also dictate that things should be made in harmony with nature and that things should be made to last rather than be replaced—hence the word “green.” Scandinavian simplicity emanates from the box to the Philosopher’s watch. The bold, white watch box matches the watch face palette and logo. The wrapping for additional leather straps that easily interchange, also fitting together for that same timeless look. It works beautifully and holds true of the Danish natives’ love for understated design. I’ve been wearing the Philosopher for a little over a month now and compared to my radio-controlled watch, it’s only 5 seconds late. The country of assembly These vegan leather straps wear and feel like the real thing. Created with the utmost comfort, durability, and style in mind, you never miss with our vegan leather straps.

All that combined into the fuchsia pink-esque hue that finally emerged the winner from our multiple tests and trials. The smooth organic form of the casing matched with the direct and subtle dial give the watch a sense of practicality with no fuss or loud colors. The hands are basic in form but well finished and interesting enough to read easily. The fit and finish throughout make the watch very comfortable to wear, it is both smooth and light and so does not cause any undue strain on the wrist ( unlike some heavy divers ). Overall the watch is a joy to use, its understated nature is a calm and refreshing change to a busy and hectic world, a quiet companion that is reliable and well made.In the past, Nordgreen used to say they use a Japanese movement, but they didn’t give any details about which one. Now they’ve decided to be transparent about it – the movement is made by Miyota. Even though Nordgreen uses the genuine leather (lower grade than top-grain or full-grain), they seem to source it from an excellent tannery. It’s soft and easy to wear for long periods of time. While many watch brands offer multiple series of watches, each series with numerous differing designs, Nordgreen adheres to one basic design for each series. What you can customize are the color of the case, the dial color, and the strap. There are a lot of minimalist watches on the market (especially from designer brands), but the Philosopher manages to stand out. It features many small details that elevate the watch, and the brand is leading the way in terms of ethical business practices and eco-friendliness. Nordgreen has always opted for Japanese quartz movements and the Philosopher is no different. While they don’t have information on the specific caliber available, we learned in our previous review that Nordgreen uses Miyota.

In the final movie, Harry, Ron and Hermione break into Bellatrix’s vault at Gringotts with the help of Griphook the goblin. There, they steal Helga Hufflepuff’s cup, which is another Horcrux, but Griphook steals the Sword of Gryffindor from Harry and abandons them, forcing the trio to escape on the bank's guardian dragon. Dolores tightens her grip on the school, and Harry forms a secret group called “Dumbledore’s Army” in the Room of Requirement. He begins training students to protect themselves from the oncoming threat. The Philosopher is a great little watch without doubt but as with any watch there are a few niggles that only a watchmaker would see. Most designer watches are made from a designers view point and often small things are overlooked, these things are the problems us watchmakers later find when it comes to repairing these types of watch. Fortunately this watch has so little in terms of potential problems that it is almost not worth mentioning but in the interest of fairness i will point them out. One thing I do like is how the crystal has a groove as it connects with the case. Again, the design is subtle and isn’t noticeable to the casual observer, but it’s something unique that I haven’t seen in another watch before. If only it were sapphire. Movement The Miyota quartz movement is a workhorse and one of the most widely used quartz movements in the world. Although there are some arguably better movements out there, like the ones from Citizen, Seiko, or Ronda, the accuracy is comparable. Quartz movements are the most accurate of all the movements and are estimated to only be around 15 seconds off per month. What you receive for your investment varies from brand to brand, but the discrepancies are not significant. You might obtain a different movement, a higher waterproof rating, or perhaps sapphire glass, but ultimately, it all evens out. The distinctions are only in the minor details.

The minimalist quartz watch market is very competitive, and the Nordgreen Philosopher does not really stand out.Nylon straps (also known as NATO straps) are known for their durability, making them ideal for tough conditions. They are also a great choice for when you want to sport a more casual look. The thing that prevented me from proactively running out and tell all my friends to buy it is the crazy 5 minutes slow down per month situation that I experienced. Although I recognise that this is extremely rare with quartz movement watches, it still shook up my confidence to recommend this watch proactively to friends. It’s that “what if” that looms me.
