Description

Toro loves to dress up, and can be frequently seen wearing all manners of outfits and cosplays, even traditionally feminine outfits like skirts and dresses: he is often portrayed as gender ambiguous in the original Japanese media. He refers to himself in 3rd-person on occasion as well, giving his speech pattern a childish tone. Note: Many of the names of these characters are unofficial, since they were never given offical names in the game. Like with Toro, Kuro likes to keep his true feelings and thoughts internal; he wants to give off a "cool guy" persona and doesn't want others to think he cares too much about things or other people, even if he does. Despite his sleazy and selfish nature, Kuro isn't a completely bad person; he cares for the people he is close to, and though hesitant, he can lend a helping paw when his friends need him most.

Kuro is usually seen wearing a red bowtie to distinct himself; in mini games and other titles of the Doko Demo Issyo series, many other stray cats who resemble Kuro can be found. Toro's most dominant personality trait is his innocent, child-like demeanor, despite being an adult; he is very curious and wants to learn as much as he can. He's not one to shy away from uncomfortable questions (mature topics in particular are an interest of his) as he sees knowing more about human things will help him become human. One of the struggles of Toro's character is growing up: he is an adult that is old enough to drink but still sees himself as a child who needs to become an adult. He wants to be more mature and knowledgeable of the world, as he is naive and still has a worldview like a child, but his dependent natue makes becoming more mature particularly difficult. His questions involving adult subjects can be seen as his way of learning more about maturity; he believes that becoming a human requires becoming an adult as well. He is also extremely naive like a child, which results in him being gullible as well. He becomes scared very easily, and tends to have irrational fears. Toro also is a crybaby and gets depressed easily, and he tends to cry a lot when upset. Despite this, Toro overall has a very optimistic outlook on life, even if his desires are seemingly impossible to obtain he never gives up.Toro Inoue (井上トロ), colloquially known as the Sony Cat, is the main character of the Doko Demo Issyo series, and the unofficial mascot of Sony Interactive Entertainment, most prominently in Japan. He is a white bobtailed cat Pokepi, known for having many distinct expressions and a tendency to dress up in various costumes. Kuro is somewhat of a nerd; sometimes described as an otaku, he loves to play video games and watch anime, and he is fluent in Internet culture. One of his passions is art; he loves to draw, although the quality of it is ambiguous and he tends to doubt his own ability. Kuro hates working; he longs for a life of rest and pleasure, spending his days usually doing nothing meaningful and playing video games, drinking himself occasionally to a stupor. Despite this laziness, however, he can be very intelligent at times, with him showing a strong knowledge of chemistry during a chapter of Toro and Friends: Onsen Town. and giving various bits of philosophical advice throughout the story. Toro's wish is to become human, a goal he has seeked in almost every game he has appeared in. He has tried many methods in an attempt to become human, his most diligently chased one is by learning human words; he believes that he can become human in this manner, since he feels he needs to know what to say once he becomes human. Mainly because of this system being difficult to convert to other languages, the series remained exclusive to Japan for many years until Toro! Let's Party!, became the first to receive translations for other Asian countries, including English. He already seems to live a life very much like a human: he has owned an apartment and was evicted, hosted a daily and weekly news program, along with many other activities. He still, however, meows and purrs frequently.

Toro may see being sensual as just a thing humans do with people they love, and both his intimate nature and desire to become more human results in his interest in learning more about sensuality. Toro's approach to subjects like these reflects his pure and innocent character; he is curious about the subject and wants to explore it, rather than being outwardly lustful. In contrast to Toro's innocent and pure character, Kuro is mature and somewhat sleazy. His implied upbringing as a stray cat has led to him becoming street smart and wise to the world. Kuro is a man of vices; he loves women, drinking, and gambling, and is often selfish and lazy. He loves to flirt with women, tending to be very direct and inappropriate in doing so. His intimate nature with the player has been a frequently explored topic within most of the Doko Demo Issyo games; one of his biggest motivations for becoming human is so he can marry the player. When it comes to love, gender is not a concern for Toro at all. Despite his dependent nature, Toro loves to help others and make people happy. Toro first appeared as one of the five Pokepi in the original Doko Demo Issyo game, which was released in Japan on the PlayStation in July 22, 1999. He was most prominently featured in the game's marketing, and its success saw him become a mascot for the PlayStation brand. As a result, he receives more focus in later entries of the series, serving as a main protagonist in more story-driven games. Toro often expresses interest in sexual and "naughty" subjects: he often asks questions about sexual topics, and expresses desire of "becoming sexier", even doing research on "naughty magazines" to learn more about human sexuality. In addition, he seems to make various remarks to his crushes that could be seen to have sexual undertones, although it seems he is unaware of the inappropriate social context it has, or if what he is doing is even sexual.
