This book is much more of a small town romance with a side of mystery than any of Harper's other books, just a very different energy overall.This is very much a character driven mystery, my very favourite kind, and I relished the seemingly slow pace, the introduction of another, older, unsolved crime, and a welcome diversion in Falk's private life.

Jane Harper has made a compelling story with friends drifting and lives moving forward from each other. In this book, there’s a reservoir, a farmhouse at a vineyard, and a festival site that I could sit sit down and describe even now. I think perhaps she succeeded with the latter, at high cost and sacrifice of the former (as well as my personal enjoyment as a reader).
