It’s obviously meant to be ‘Salve Lucrum’ or ‘Hello, Money’ as the guy opens his door or crosses the threshold. I'd prefer a textbook thats more based on explaining grammar as opposed to lots of vocabulary lists and if it touches on both conversational and formal latin that would be great. This way, you get a strong foundation from FR while at the same time discover interesting passages from two millennia of Latin literature. Glabrio accuses Salvius of the forgery of Cogidubnus' will, while Domitia accuses him of plotting her exile. The Cambridge Latin Course ( CLC) is a series of textbooks published by Cambridge University Press, used to teach Latin to secondary school pupils.
Some consist of selections from the classical canon, while others contain original or adapted Latin. The texts are accompanied by explanations of key language points, and are supported by grammar practice exercises. Grumio is the name of the slave in the TV series Plebs, and characters named Metella and Flavia also appear. However, the fairytales are not the Disney versions of the stories, which means that even though you know the stories, plots and endings might come as a surprise. However, if the main goal of learning Latin is to be able to translate the texts that the Romans wrote (and I fail to see why else one would bother! Lingua Latina Per Se Illustrata has companion volumes with additional readings and grammar exercises. But, the increase in the informal study of Latin—which I’m all for, any Latin is better than no Latin—over the last 15 years has been enormous. Also there is a timeline for the publication of a new 6th edition of the North American edition, with Units 1 and 2 scheduled to be published in spring 2024. If you are also looking to explore other ancient Mediterranean languages or already know some Ancient Greek, this would be a great option for you.
I learnt Latin as a 9-12 year old in the '60s, then abandoned it at secondary school for Russian (Cold War - so more relevant etc. This allows for you to improve on your vocabulary knowledge and exposure as well as your understanding and application of more difficult grammatical concepts. So You Really Want to Learn Latin plunges the reader head-first into the classical world, teaching the essential grammar and vocabulary required for a confident and competent use of Latin. Finally, there are the exercises themselves, which consist of short, disjointed sentences in which the grammar points of the chapter are to be used.
