Bone Machine's use of Harry Partch-style found object percussion influenced the unique percussion on certain parts of the album. I feel it's worth the cost considering the availability, the greatness of the music, and the age of the vinyl. The Fragile arrived a stylistic turning point, emerging at the point where the “alternative” sobriquet fell out of fashion and “indie” achieved dominance.

Charlie Clouser and Danny Lohner contributed occasional instrumentation and composition to several tracks although the album was predominantly written and performed by Reznor alone. Less a remix than a recreation, it’s meticulously constructed by Reznor and his longtime collaborator Atticus Ross from the existing recordings, stripping away the vocals and introducing alternate takes and brand-new songs culled from dozens of unused tracks. Will Hermes of Entertainment Weekly viewed that, even "if [Reznor's] emotional palette is limited, it remains broader than any of his metalhead peers", and that, "right now, hard rock simply doesn't get any smarter, harder, or more ambitious than this. It worked out pretty well just dividing the songs up, but we wanted the A sides of the cassettes to be slightly longer than the B sides (so that when the tape flips over you are not in the middle of the first song on that side).Comes with a booklet talking about the creation of the album, a quadruple fold lyric insert, and the LPs come in poly lined inner sleeves. Stated in an interview with the Nailed Podcast, Charlie Clouser believes that "Rotation" is an early iteration of " The Big Come Down", but could not say for certain.

Yeung of AllMusic recommended that fans listen to and understand the original album first before delving into Deviations 1. Although it may not sound like it, most of the album is actually guitar – and that includes the orchestral sounds and weird melodic lines. Beyond that, I am unaware of the quantity that were released for the first press, but I would presume there weren't many.And what an experience, this has a dynamic full soundstage which is lacking from the CD and even the 2017 vinyl. This edition of The Fragile was released originally on vinyl in 1999, and was re-released in 2017 as part of the Definitive Edition series of vinyl re-releases.
