Description

The high-end digital compact camera is equipped with an LCD monitor that supports touch operations and a convenient control dial. The GR iii constantly struggles to achieve focus, even on the most obvious subjects and the full HD 1080p video looks more like 720p.

Having made the switch from the Fujifilm X100V to the Ricoh GR III I took the camera on a 3 week trip to Japan. Additionally, a first for GR, a 3-axis Shake Reduction System compensates for the effects of camera shake to help render sharper handheld shots when working with slower shutter speeds. I've seen some wonderful portraits at 24mm, but that doesn't make the WA focal length something recommended.I initially thought fewer dots meant less dot density across the same 3 inch screen real estate until I saw this difference. I have no doubt the likes of winogrand and his contemporaries would have exulted to own this tiny marvel !

The fact that Ricoh managed to fit a 3-axis IBIS system in this camera is a beautiful and appreciated gift. Please include what you were doing when this page came up and the Cloudflare Ray ID found at the bottom of this page.In my opinion, the image stabilization in this camera is the icing on the cake of an already great feat of engineering.

This model is one-size smaller than that of the GR II and about the same size of GR DIGITAL IV with a 1/1. The camera is quick to start up so if you see something you want to capture it’s easy to whip it out of your pocket, turn it on and snap away. The specs claim both cameras have a 3 inch screen and one might believe it until the displays are turned on side by side displaying an image. In 2013, technical advancements made it possible to squeeze in an APS-C sensor in a more or less equally small camera body, which suddenly made it an exciting camera for many professionals.

The Ricoh GR III and I crossed paths back in 2019, 3 years ago, and probably an eternity in photography equipment releases. But after taking 5,000 pictures in various shooting conditions, I can confidently say the Ricoh hasn’t let me down. I also have the X100V (ya I’m terrible) but to me the X100V is kinda showing its age due to the lack of performance updates while the GR III has plowed ahead. If you have always wanted a high-performing compact (APSC sized sensor and above) there are only just a few choices, the Leica Q series, the Fujifilm X100 series, and the Ricoh GR series. All of the photos on this page has been shot hand-held with the Ricoh GR III, and are edited to taste in Adobe Lightroom.I haven't heard much about the previous generations falling apart, and I expect it to be the same this time around.
