Description

Can she really trust the charming headmistress, Miss de Vere and what goes on in the haunted tower after dark? Justice is a mature girl, older than her years because of her upbringing, and has a great determination to solve puzzles. And, despite herself, she makes friends with some of the other pupils and one of the maids at Highbury. The first book in the series introduces us to Justice Jones, the daughter of a high-profile barrister in London. I wanted a little more backstory for justice and her mum, just cause I loved what we saw of their relationship!

I loved Justice as a character- she was super clever and so brave, and I particularly enjoyed the insights into her journal. The world of Highbury House is beautifully portrayed, from the disgusting school meals, to the entertaining cast of teachers and pupils and the atmospheric construction of the school ghost legend; all add greatly to the entertaining plot. Justice har ikke tidligere haft særlig meget omgang med jævnaldrende, så denne første tid på kostskolen, skal også lære hende at begå sig blandt jævnaldrende børn og aflæse deres kropssprog. This has all the best of Elly Griffiths 'grown up ' murder mysteries plus shades of the traditional boarding school story. The rules were strict, the corridors freezing, the food disgusting, but when Justice made a new friend in Stella, she was happier. The regular journal updates by Justice of key suspects and investigation details is also a good device.

I will include posts on upcoming books to help readers keep abreast of new publications and their dates. All of our books are 100% brand new, unread and purchased directly from the publishers in bulk allowing us to pass the huge savings on to you! However, the reason that I didn`t adore this as much as I`d hoped to was that the pacing of the mystery felt really rushed to me- it didn`t get properly into the investigation until roughly halfway through and at one point it felt like someone was dying every few pages as a result. But when a storm cuts the school off from the real world, the body count starts to rise and Justice realises she'll need help from her new friends if she's going to find the killer before it's too late. What makes this book different, new and refreshing is it is brought right up into the present day as the author challenges stereotypes and does this naturally by weaving these in as asides throughout the story through the eyes of Justice Jones, the sleuth.I only post positive reviews, if I don't like a book or cannot imagine it being one that I would recommend to a readership group whose interests differ from my own, I don't post a review. We who can remember school days full of lessons and rules and sport and more rules where we wished for something to happen that would be exciting. Justice is a curious, clever, determined super-sleuth who is intent on solving the mystery of the murdered maid which leads to her tenaciously following her suspicions … and uncovering hidden secrets.

When Justice’s father disappears after the half-holiday at Highbury, anybody and everybody is suspect.Through it all, Justice manages to make some friends and distract herself from missing her mum and dad. At just under 200 pages, the Justice Jones series is perfect for readers of 8+ who are building their independent reading stamina.
