Banijay Kids & Family today announces a new animation, Super Happy Magic Forest, produced by Tiger Aspect Kids & Family with Movimenti Production (both Banijay Kids & Family companies). A broadcast collaboration with BBC and Rai Kids, the series is based on the popular picture books of the same name by Matty Long. A pre-sale has also been secured with Canal+. Sarah Muller, Head of BBC Children’s Commissioning 7+ says:: “ Super Happy Magic Forest is full of joy and I loved it from the first moment I saw it. I just know our audience will feel the same too.” When the Ice Queen covers the entire forest in snow, can the heroes break her spell before they all freeze? Five heroes ― a fairy, a unicorn, a faun, a gnome, and a talking mushroom ― must go on an epic quest to find the potion before the Slug of Doom can drink it, but their quest won’t be easy. They must first navigate past dragon lairs, outwit cunning ogres, swim across deep rivers and work as a team if they are to succeed. I'm not sure who will get more enjoyment out of this one - the 'toddlers' billed as its target audience or those older readers/adults who are the book's mediators to the very young. - Jill Bennett, Red Reading Hub

Banijay Group is the world's largest independent content creation Group for television and multimedia platforms. Banijay Group is present in 16 territories. Matty's books make me super happy! They are funny, super inventive, and super silly. - Chris Riddell Super is an explosion of ideas and colour all held together by a love of the fantasy genre.' - Sam Tyler, The BookBag This is glorious. A lovely romp with some scary/dangerous elements, bright illustrations, and silly text. A great book for both boys and girls, as it is not often you can find a book about unicorns, fairies, and tea parties that isn't very gendered. My four year old loves it, but it may be a bit scary for more sensitive kiddos.Super Happy Magic Forest’ follows the story of five unlikely heroes going on an adventure to return the magical crystals of life to the Super Happy Magic Forest. The stories is very funny and is a good exploration of the hero and adventure narrative and cleverly subverts some expectations the children might have about traditional adventure stories. The illustrations are colourful and hold incredibly rich details which enhance the storytelling process. Additionally a lot of the story is told through speech bubbles which is a nice way to introduce children to the concept and provides brilliant opportunity for voices in storytelling. Someone has stolen the Mystical Crystals of Life from the Super Happy Magic Forest, and five unlikely heroes have been called on to recover the jewels. The quest will take them on a harrowing -- and hilarious -- journey.

The 52×11 minutes series will bring to life the world created in the books, in a colourful 2D animation for 7+ years. Exec Producers are Tiger Aspect Kids & Family’s MD Tom Beattie ( Mr Bean: The Animated Series) and Jeff ‘Swampy’ Marsh ( Phineas and Ferb). Matty's books make me SUPER HAPPY! They are super funny, super inventive and super silly'. Chris Riddell I challenge you to find a sillier story than this picture book by Matty Long. [...] You only realise quite how boring most books for the very young are when you come across one that breaks the mould - or, I should say, the ice. - Children's Book of the Week - The Times Matty's books make me SUPER HAPPY! They are super funny, super inventive and super silly.' - Chris Riddell I'm not sure who will get more enjoyment out of this one - the 'toddlers' billed as its target audience or those older readers/adults who are the book's mediators to the very young.' - Jill Bennett, Red Reading HubSlug of Doom is a standalone adventure that can be enjoyed even if you haven’t read a previous Super Happy Magic Forest book! More from Oxford Owl I read this book to my 5-year-old neighbor, Everleigh. It seemed like it was right up her alley: unicorns, butterfly horses, fairies, cotton candy caves... But ultimately, she declared, "I do not like it. It was scary." This book is probably more appropriate for slightly older kids, perhaps around 7, who would still enjoy a read-aloud picture book but might not get as spooked by the "Super Creepy Haunted Forest." It's a fun read for the grown-ups, too, with silly speech bubbles and allusions to Lord of the Rings.
