Similarly, Priority Doctrine Adoption allows a single unit to use a different Strategic Doctrine from the rest of the army. The venerable Watch Master can use Adaptive Tactics to switch which battlefield role your Xenos Hunters Chapter Tactics provides rerolls against – essential when you’ve wiped your first targets off the board, and need to bear down on your enemy’s next cadre of key units. If you seek to safeguard the Imperium from xenos threats, then Combat Patrol: Deathwatch is the way to do it! The contents of this set have been specifically chosen to provide you with an ideal Deathwatch force for Combat Patrol sized games – approximately 25 Power Level's worth of miniatures. The Deathwatch is a highly specialised Chapter. Their primary mission is to combat xenos (alien) threats to the Imperium of Man. Outrider: 4x Astartes Chainsword, 4x Frag & Krak grenades, 4x Heavy Bolt Pistol, 4x Twin Bolt rifle The Warhammer 40K Combat Patrol: Blood Angels is a boxed set of 15 miniatures of collective 500-point value. The Blood Angels are another Space Marines Chapter, and they are direct descendants of the primarchs, the genetically-engineered sons of the Emperor of Mankind. In the story of the game, the Blood Angels have suffered heavy defeats, leading the vanguard against xenos across the universe and facing countless foes.

Getting started with Warhammer 40,000 can be a daunting task when you first take a look at the hobby. There are so many miniatures, rules, and dyes to assemble, study, and use. It can frankly feel overwhelming. For a while now, Games Workshop, the publisher of the game, has worked on Combat Patrols, which usually consist of enough miniatures and models to create a solid 400-500-point army. These have all their normal wargear options, e.g. Intercessors can take auto, stalker, or regular bolt rifles, or Eliminators can swap their bolt sniper rifle for a las fusil. There’s also some adjustments to unit abilities, e.g. Outriders keep Devastating Charge but only for themselves. Similarly, only Eradicators can use Total Annihilation. Probably most unique is the Spectrus Kill Team – Omni-scramblers requires at least 1 model in the unit to be an Infiltrator, but it continues applying to “the unit” as normal; the same is true of Terror Troops from the Reivers. The Multi-spectrum Array only applies to Incursors, however. The Soul Fortress. LIBRARIAN only; ignore modifiers to Psychic tests and increase the Psychic Hood ability to 24″. There’s just kind of not that many psychic modifiers in the game anyway. B The Leagues of Votann is what happens when you are an affluent trader with a militaristic bent. The leagues are a powerful conglomeration of warriors who yield powerful technology to advance their trade guilds. They clone bodies and engineer them to match the resourcefulness and physical attributes of Space Marines and are part of the Imperium. Although they are subject to racial slurs in the Imperium, the Leagues of Votann are respected warriors fighting side-by-side Astra Militarum for the most part.Yes, you read that right, it contains 30 Poxwalkers. These revolting, shambling so-and-sosare the putrefying sludge on which your Death Guard force will slide inexorably toward the enemy, their foetid forms an ideal, moving bullet spongemaskingyour footslogging Plague Marines as they inch ever closer to contagion range… Warhammer 40K is usually played with 2,000 points, but the Warhammer 40K Combat Patrol boxes make the game far more accessible notwithstanding some minor balance complaints. Even those qualms about balance have been ironed out in the 10 th edition of the game. Indomitor: 5 Heavy Intercessors, 5 murder machines to taste. Heavy Intercessors are pretty durable, and can be made more so by palling around with the Dominus Aegis and/or Fortified with Contempt. This makes them great protection for your choice of Aggressors, Inceptors or Eradicators, and there’s enough flexibility in the types of weaponry here that you’ve got plenty of options to make a swiss army knife centrepiece for your army.

Wayland Games

The Brotherhood of Veterans stratagem allows a Deathwatch unit to swap their Xenos Hunters Chapter Tactic for any other Chapter Tactic from Codex Space Marines. Your unit of Aggressors with boltstorm gauntlets has line of sight on a huge horde of Orks? Let the Crimson Fist among them declare ‘No Matter the Odds!’ and hit with more shots than you fire. We have previously written about the various Start Collecting boxes to see which ones are the best value, but since that article was written there have been a LOT of changes to Combat Patrol Range. There are currently 18 Combat Patrol boxes available–the replacement for the Start Collecting box–and more coming out all the time. We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post. What is the best value Combat Patrol to build a Warhammer 40k army?

The Warhammer 40K Combat Patrol: Adeptus Mechanicus features a 500-point set of 15 miniatures. The Mechanicus human faction has melded their bodies with metal and machinery and is a unique part of the Imperium of Man. The Adeptus Mechanicus is a well-rounded force, combining unique engineering insight, close-range combat, and heavy ranged fire.

Teleportarium – 1CP –Use during deployment (at Step 10, per the most recent FAQ) – one DEATHWATCH INFANTRY, DREADNOUGHT, or BIKER unit gain the Teleport Strike ability from Codex: Space Marines (i.e. deep strike). Use once in Combat Patrol/Incursion, twice in Strike Force, or three times in Onslaught games. Some powerful flexibility, opening up deep striking to units that can’t normally access it. B That said, I really have a problem with some of the other Space Marine Combat Patrols on this list, and that problem is: upgrade sprues. Spectrus: Vanguard Primaris Marines, consisting of 1 Infiltrator Sergeant and 4 Infiltrators. You can add up to 5 other models from either Infiltrators, Incursors, Reivers, and Eliminators. The unit has INFANTRY, CORE, KILL TEAM, PRIMARIS, PHOBOS and SPECTRUS for keywords Of the 25 miniatures in the Orks Combat Patrol, 24 were brand new on the set’s release, including 20 new Ork Boyz, three Deffkoptas, and a Warboss in mega-armour. The Deff Dread isn’t a new sculpt, but is as shooty and stompy as ever.

What I would be intrigued to find out, and what I will probably do in a future article, is figure out the points value of each Combat Patrol box to see which are really the cheapest armies as far as getting into the game. For example, the Adeptus Custodes are approximately 515 points for their 16 models, but the Genestealer Cults are about 484 points for their 30 models. This seems to indicate that Games Workshop is trying to keep the points cost relatively balanced. ( But I will do more research into this.) Psychic Cleanse (Witchfire) – WC6 –Roll 1D6 for each enemy model within 9″ of the psyker; on a 6 that model’s unit takes 1 mortal wound. Actually not bad for a Smite-alike if you get to cast it into a big blob of Boyz or something, but just not going to be relevant or better than Smiting most of the time. C The Deathwatch have a flexible offering, with a lot of different parts combining to make a whole. Like with any Space Marine supplement, what you’re looking for here is what it does uniquely well. The first and most obvious thing is the anti-xenos stuff in here; if xenos are riding high in the meta, then the Deathwatch are always worth a look to see if they offer a unique counter. Ah, the Blood Angels– noble and civilised sons of Sanguinius, most handsome, tragic, star-crossed and pretty of all the Emperor’s ‘Primarch’ sons. These renaissance Italy-themed space marines are among the most storied and popular chapters of the Adeptus Astartes.

COMBAT PATROL: DEATHWATCH VIGIL FORCE ALPHION

They operate as an ‘elite’ army in Warhammer 40k, meaning they tend to field fewer miniatures than their opponents for the same budget of points, but each model can hope to deal out more punishment to the enemy before it gets blown away.

Deathwatch tactics

The T’au Empire is a cast-based faction in the Warhammer 40,000 universe that is an inclusive melting pot for all humans and xenos. However, they are at constant war with the Imperium of War as the humans are too indoctrinated and xenophobic to ever allow for another race to exist on their watch. The Combat Patrol: T’au Empire boxed set is a great way to get introduced to the faction and start collecting or expanding on if you already own models.
