Description

I was intrigued by the concept of an evolutionary origin driving human curiosity. Compared to other animals, it appears that humans possess a unique biological urge to be curious, to venture into the unknown. Some might say then that curiosity is a key trait of humanity: to be curious is to be human. His basic contention is that curiosity is what has driven scientific and cultural advancement, and that that this powerful impulse in humans may be under threat by the Internet and certain ill-founded educational philosophies. PERSONAL TAKEAWAY:__ _Ask questions._ As technologies like Google make answers increasingly easier to access, success is no longer measured by controlling information (having answers). Instead, success is going to be gained by those individuals who ask the right questions. Fortunately, I am not shy about asking questions which is probably a symptom (and a cause) of my curiosity.

and aesthetically pleasing play spaces for children using provocations, loose parts and open-end resources. It’s amazing to see us all have light bulb Dante dizelerini, kantolarını zihnindeki edebi, bilimsel, teolojik ve felsefi kaynaklardan ve olağanüstü günlük hayat gözlemlerinden faydalanarak yazmış. My class absolutely love anything related to space so I am looking forward to adding this one to my book corner. There is a sadness to reading ‘Curiosity’, as it is quite possibly Manguel’s final such book. He is my favourite author of books-about-books, as his writing is thoughtful, profound, humane, and informed by a lifetime of reading. Here, Manguel talks about suffering a stroke and his intuition that he will not live much longer, something he has made peace with. Nonetheless, this is not an inherently unhappy book. Rather, it is tribute to the curiosity of humanity about the world, each other, and ourselves throughout history. To lend structure to this incredibly broad topic, Manguel uses Dante’s La Divina Commedia. His love of La Divina Commedia has convinced me to read it; ‘Curiosity’ is a very effective book recommendation as well as a social history and philosophical enquiry. We can argue that curiosity is a trait which leads to a richer, more fulfilling life, but nevertheless, different strokes for different folks; some people are intellectuals, some are brawn, some leaders, some artists- people have innately different approaches to fulfillment and there's a myriad of ways that individuals are inspired to function and serve in society. Not everyone is going to have curiosity at the center of their lives, though we wish they all could share in the fun. There are two types of curiosity: diversive and epistemic. There are actually three types of curiosity with the third being empathetic, but the author barely gives empathetic curiosity airtime. There are 3 types of curiosity: diversive (looking for distraction), empathic (emotional intelligence and how other people think), and epistemic. The last covers things hard to learn and deep thinking to understand. It is what can become obsessions or drag us out of depressions. I got my start in paranormal investigation when it was a popular fad around 2000 and joined a ghost-hunting group. I became obsessed with the history behind hauntings and why ghost stories and legends persist over time. This love of the ghostly combined with my love of books and literature led me down the path of writing. I enjoy sharing strange and spooky history because it puts people in touch with their state's history in a fun and interesting way. So many people think history is boring facts and dates, but share a ghost story or a true crime mystery, and you have people’s attention. When that story happened close to home? Even better!

I believe after all this journey it's the children that have made the most achievements. The progression, development and imaginations grow everyday I have been on this journey for decades. I have just celebrated my 81 st birthday and I am still learning. What I have seen is that most problems are people problems. That’s hard for me as a technical person with a Ph.D. in computer science. I have learned a lot the hard way and books like these have helped me. The books that helped the most were Fearless Change and More Fearless Change, written with my good friend and writing partner, Mary Lynn Manns. They changed my life. I hope these books will change yours. However, I have to confess that I have plunged into a kind of reverse Eve-guilt many, many times, being too tired and distracted to engage in the curious questions I have been asked. When I had two toddlers and a baby at home, I used to read a lot to the 2 and 4-year-olds just to have an hour of sitting down instead of running. At one point I decided to introduce them to the mythical origins of our culture and read the children's bible. An avalanche of questions was the result: For decades, film and TV producer Brian Grazer has scheduled a weekly "curiosity conversation" with an accomplished stranger. From scientists to spies, and adventurers to business leaders, Grazer has met with anyonewilling to answer his questions for a few hours. These informal discussions sparked the creative inspiration behind many of Grazer's movies and TV shows, including Splash, 24, A Beautiful Mind, Apollo 13, Arrested Development, 8 Mile, J. Edgar, and many others.Everyone is born curious. But only some retain the habits of exploring, learning and discovering as they grow older. Which side of the ’curiosity divide’ are you on? A 1655 engraving published by Elzevier of Amsterdam of the collection of curios – or Wormianum, as he called it – assembled by the Danish physician and natural historian Ole Worm. Photograph: Interfoto/Alamy Stephanie Bennett and Lyndsey Hellyn have helped me find my sparkle! My nursery has never been so full of creative, enthusiastic and engaged staff and Curiosity is recursive. It builds upon itself. If you want to become a more curious person, you need to start somewhere, slowly, and recognize that the more curiosities you pursue, the more curious you will become over time. In Curious, author Ian Leslie puts together research, anecdotes and knowledge from various fields including history, psychology, education, and science to explain the nature of curiosity, how it works, and how to cultivate it.⁣
