Joe is one of my all-time favorite characters! Kind of crusty but with a heart of gold. Raising his two daughters as a single father, while battling Parkinson’s. a b c d Bryan, Felicity (7 February 2019). "Rosamunde Pilcher obituary". The Guardian. ISSN 0261-3077 . Retrieved 28 January 2023.

Mr. Parkinson is a cruel puppeteer, tugging at invisible strings, making me dance to music that only he can hear.” I really enjoyed this book. It is not a thriller, nor a love story, not an urban fantasy or a ya coming of age. It is just a greatly written story about the wrong person to love and the possible consequences. A well written story, we have some insight into what Joe is thinking but mainly we are traveling with him. We encounter the scary situations and the physical violence, he happens upon. We too, question the obvious lies and less than clear answers. We ponder the motives of those who shouldn't have any skin in the game and yet, they are now major players in a conspiracy. And then there’s the whole false memory thing – which is something my mother’s called me out on a few times: when I’ve thought something happened or was a certain way, but it apparently wasn’t at all! Whether we misunderstand situations as kids or memories are tainted by other things I’m not sure… but it’s certainly a bit confronting to Joe. The characters of this book were great and the plot was good too. It moved a tad bit slow from what I like, but the story and twists were really good. There seemed to be a lot of chapters on Suzie and Nora too, Elle had a smaller share and I'd have loved to know more about the incidents from her past and what shaped her to be the person she was. The ending was fantastic. But there too, I'd have loved to more about how it came to be. The Other Wife is a compelling and emotional story that follows two women whose world is turned upside down when they find out that they have been betrayed by the same man, their husband! When his mother reveals to Joe that she knew all about his father’s other wife and has done so for twenty years, Joe now needs to know what other secrets are hiding in the family closet. Since then, Michael's psychological thrillers have been translated into twenty-five languages and his Joe O'Loughlin series is are currently in development for TV by World Productions. A six-part TV series based upon his standalone novel THE SECRETS SHE KEEPS was aired on BBC1 in 2020, and a second series begins filming in 2021.

A television adaptation of The Shell Seekers (dir. Waris Hussein), starring Angela Lansbury, was made in 1989. [11] I have never seen Worner in anything else but I HAVE seen Everett and Hannah, and they are both perfectly good actors. I'm forced to assume the director had some really strange ideas s/he projected onto the whole cast, and I sympathize with them enormously. The only ones who appear to have resisted are the actors playing George and Anne Meriot, but that's only 2 out of too many. FOR THE EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW I DID WITH THE AUTHOR, FOLLOW THIS LINK: http://twentythreeowls.blogspot.sg/20... Wow! Brilliant. I love this series and in particular, enjoy the author’s writing (huge fan). Psychologically rich. One of my favorite authors – with each book I say “my favorite.” From the standalone and the series. What makes his work so unique is the sophisticated character development. There is always a story, flawed characters with strong family ties and emotions. Generous portions of psychosis and chillingly atmospheric in mood and setting. Featuring unreliable narrators and several supporting roles, none of whom could be trusted. Or could they? There were no usual suspects as any of the cast seemed capable....a b c d "Rosamunde Pilcher, author of The Shell Seekers, dies at 94". BBC. 7 February 2019 . Retrieved 7 February 2019. I liked that the author had the story told by both women, giving the reader a views of each side of the story, without having a "bad guy". I suspect that in the book, Rebeca Kendall (her character) is meant to be a dignified woman, calm and collected. Sadly, Worner's Rebeca comes across emotionally stunted instead, and that's only if you decide to force yourself to see her monotonous droning as realistic, and try to figure out what sort of state a human being must be in to behave like that. (Worner looks and sounds the same whether Rebeca's giving advice to her daughters, flirting with her husband, mourning his death, OR raging at his infidelity). Even if Rosamunde Pilcher did write the character as incapable of expressing emotion (it's quite possible), what's the excuse for what amounts to over 80% of the rest of the cast? a b c Binchy, Maeve (7 February 1988). "War and Change Come to Temple Pudley". New York Times . Retrieved 1 September 2012. The storytelling is thoughtful and heartfelt, building towards a dramatic chain of events that results in the long-anticipated meeting of the two women.

The Other Wife is a powerful women's fiction story of loss, betrayal, compassion, forgiveness, and growth. It is a thought provoking and emotional tale that will stay with you long after the last word has been read. a b c d Bruns, Ann (11 August 2000). "Biography: Rosamunde Pilcher". Bookreporter.com . Retrieved 1 September 2012. Joe's persistent leads to discoveries that make him and his family a target. Despite his misgivings, he must find answers as the police seem to be on the wrong trail. The head investigator is making ever effort to stymie Joe and even threatens him in the process. However, Joe's family is at risk and Joe must have answers, even if the police honor their threats against him. Even if his own safety is at risk. There are more skeletons in his families closet than a haunted house! This woman is in her forties. How can this be possible? She says they are married. Is she after his money? However, he is married to his mother —has been for more than sixty years. Does his mother know his dad is leading a double life? I also have something I need to get off my chest...I loathed Suzi's character. She was a thoughtless, vaguely ignorant airhead, who couldn't responsibly care for a dog. As a mom of four dogs myself, I found her character to be incredibly abhorrent. I'm translating this for TV (have not finished yet) and although the story is OK, the acting is remarkably dull and uninspired - with the exception of 2 (two) actors. Even Rupert Everett exudes NO emotion whatsoever but at least he's off screen most of the time, and doesn't come off completely rookie when he does make an appearance. Pretty much everyone else sounds like this is their very first acting job so they're just petrified, and deal with their stage fright by reciting their lines with the enthusiasm of a terminally depressed Dalek.

The Other Wife is a suspenseful, domestic thriller which follows the perspectives of three different women, Suzi, Nora, and Elle. They each have a story to tell, but just how closely are these three women actually connected? And who is the strange woman crying at William's bedside, covered in his blood - a friend, a mistress, a fantasist or a killer? For the next fourteen years he worked for newspapers and magazines in Australia, Europe, Africa and America. As a senior feature writer for the UK’s Mail on Sunday he was among the first people to view the letters and diaries of Czar Nicholas II and his wife Empress Alexandra, unearthed in the Moscow State Archives in 1991. He also gained access to Stalin’s Hitler files, which had been missing for nearly fifty years until a cleaner stumbled upon a cardboard box that had been misplaced and misfiled. The ending was really hard to suspend disbelief for but my radar twanged when that heartless shrink made that remark so the rest of the book was already a lost cause for me. Having discovered Michael Robotham’s writing last year—I obsessed over two of his standalones—and being a bit of a commitment-phobe when it comes to investing in a long-standing series, I decided to take a leap and start here, with book nine. The fact that I’m easily distracted by shiny new releases didn't help things either.

Did I mention dead bodies? There are some. There’s also infidelity, manipulation, spying, and A LOT of lying. I mention this because one or more of these subjects could be triggers for some. The fact is Richard was a scoundrel, unfortunately one that Eleanor spent her life with, but as Claire realises the time was not lost: both of the women were blessed with beautiful children, and I know they wouldn’t do their lives over because of those children. (An excellent message to readers that there can be good things born from adversity)
