I enjoyed Colin's artwork, but I suppose from reading, listening and digesting scripts and writings over the years, his own genius had to evolve. The site was created a few years back with the aim of becoming a high quality sparklebox alternative - helping teachers and parents to create exciting and inspiring learning environments for young children. They become increasingly poor – thanks partly to Jack’s own carelessness – until the day comes when all they have left is a cow, which Jack’s mother tells him to take to the market to sell for money.

Take a closer look at this wooden pole below, with the electrical cabling wound around it; this city hasn’t completely given itself over to industrialism — vestiges of the more wholesome natural world remain.

This take on the well-known fairy-tale is set in the 1950s with Jack and his mother running an American diner underneath a flyover.

Our lovely teacher and design teams have updated this resource and you can now download the new version. The butcher who sells better sausages ends up making more money and eventually puts the inferior butcher out of business.Overnight it grows into a gigantic baked beanstalk, which takes Jack to the castle of a giant who spends all his time counting his huge fortune. Bryn was very tickled by the nice giant with a love of cooking although he would have preferred him to be "eating people and grinding bones to make his bread". So now you know what first got me dreaming about roading the trails through the Big Woods far from the farm. The storyteller stopped me before I got all my questions out and said I should think hard about those questions and the best answers would come to me without his help.

He's read the story before: he quickly climbs the beanstalk through the clouds to get to the treasure. This picturebook contains some really wonderful illustrations and brings a new, modern twist to the classic fairytale.

At college his work was influenced by Edwardian illustrators such as Edmund Dulac and Arthur Rackham. The giant is not who we think he will be, the burgers look delicious, and the little eatery anticipates the Food Truck mania currently raging in 2014. In this version of Jack and the Beanstalk, there is no antagonist unless you count an overpass that inadvertently drives Jack and his mother into temporary poverty.

This writing unit of work contains 20 sessions and will cover all of the key elements within the Y2 national curriculum programme of study for writing.
