Description

The introduction provides an excellent overview of the Solar System as well as introducing Dr Maggie as the tour guide. This is like an enhanced glossary with information set out clearly and accessibly, including a really useful list of ‘space words’, to which I referred regularly as I read the book. While doing this she has toured the UK speaking to inner-city schools inspiring the next generation of physicists. This fantastic, imaginative reference book would be a wonderful resource in the classroom and treasured by any young person with an interest in space.

This marvellous exploration of the history, design, engineering, technology and innovation of car-making is essential reading for any child with an interest in cars. Her hugely successful academic career, commitment to exploring all things to do with space and her abilities to communicate complex ideas to children, are all evident in this book. Maggie is committed to inspiring new generations of astronauts, engineers and scientists through her 'Tours of the Universe'. From spotting solar flares on the Sun to exploring objects at the edge of the icy Oort Cloud, this fun, action-packed title leaves no question unanswered and no meteorite unturned. This book breaks down some really complicated science into bitesize chunks that children can process and use. Join BBC presenter and renowned space scientist Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock on an epic journey through the Solar System - visiting planets, moons, asteroids and satellites, all the way to the Oort Cloud. An inter-stellar and stand-out addition to the world of non-fiction; Dr Maggie is a revelation in the STEM world. A book that will leave its readers informed, inspired, intrigued and itching to find out as much as they can about the wonders of our Solar System and beyond.

At the end of the book is a ‘database’ of fascinating facts, such as how long it would take to travel to each planet, as well as details about scientists, engineers and astronauts, whose pioneering work has provided a greater understanding of what lies beyond planet Earth. Overcoming Dyslexia to study at Imperial College, she obtained her degree in Physics and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering. This mind-blowing book invites readers to join BBC presenter and renowned space scientist Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock (MBE) on an epic journey through the Solar System - visiting planets, moons, asteroids and satellites, and travelling to places where no human has been before. The programme earned Maggie the Talkback Thames new talent award at the prestigious Women in Film and TV Awards in December 2011.For Art Prints please allow 5 working days for unframed prints and 15 working days for framed prints/ stretched canvas. This mind-blowing book invites readers to join BBC presenter, renowned space scientist Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock (MBE) on an epic journey through the Solar System - visiting planets, moons, asteroids and satellites, and travelling to places where no human has been before.

In 2006 she was one of six ‘Women of Outstanding Achievement’ winners with GetSET Women and in 2009 she was awarded a Member of the British Empire for her services to science and education. This book is designed for the younger audience but as someone involved in astronomy out reach with school children, I find it a great teaching aid. As well as fronting The Sky at Night, Maggie has appeared in numerous programmes including Stargazing Live and Doctor Who Confidential. Very pleased with purchase and recommend for any parent who wants their child to enjoy STEM subjects. An inspiring woman full of knowledge ready to ensure there is a new generation of astronauts, scientists and astrophysicists! She already has another book by this author which loves and I’m sure she’ll enjoy this one even though it is held out to be for 8-11 year olds. She has worked as a space scientist for many years on projects such as the James Webb Space telescope. Many books are being published on the subject but this is absolutely one of the best I've come across for children. Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock is a space scientist whose passion is presenting science to a general audience and demonstrating that you ‘don’t need a brain the size of a small planet’ to understand, participate in and enjoy science. Does the book contain anything that teachers would wish to know about before recommending in class (strong language, sensitive topics etc.
