Ellie Makes a New Friend” is an adorable story that will encourage any little one make new friends. My son is starting pre-K in the fall and is worried about making friends. I love how this book started us talking about ways he can be a friend to someone. We also talked about the importance of choosing the right friends. Authored by Ambassador Callista L. Gingrich and illustrated by Susan Arciero, “Christmas in America” will delight readers who want to discover how the celebration of Christmas has prevailed and brought out the best in our nation. Take a guided tour through American history with Ellis the Elephant. “Sweet Land of Liberty” takes children on an entertaining and educational journey to introduce and explain the greatness of America. Traveling through time, Ellis partakes in the pivotal moments that have shaped our nation’s unique history and character. Authored by Ambassador Callista L. Gingrich and illustrated by Susan Arciero, “Sweet Land of Liberty” will delight young and old alike through the charming adventures of Ellis the Elephant and the story of why America is an exceptional nation. Ellie takes a trip to the library and discovers some helpful books on friendship and begins her search to find a new friend. Will Ellie be able to find a new friend so that she won’t be lonely any more? Activity: Draw a self-portrait of yourself from a picture. Make sure to include everything about yourself. (Eye color, hair color, if your nails are painted, glasses, etc.) After you are done drawing your self-portrait, write a paragraph explaining your favorite thing about yourself and what makes you special and stand out just like Ellie.

Kent, David (1993). Australian Chart Book 1970–1992 (illustrateded.). St Ives, N.S.W.: Australian Chart Book. p.312. ISBN 0-646-11917-6. If that doesn’t happen, then the child is like Ellie, wandering the neighborhood by herself, feeling lost and alone, wanting someone to play with. Even children with friends can relate to this and it is a lesson to the children to go out of their way to say “hello” and ask the new child, “Do you want to play with me(us)?” Edwards graduated from the University of Washington with a master’s degree in China Studies and a Master of Business Administration. A former U.S. diplomat, he served in South Korea, Paraguay, and Zambia before leaving the Foreign Service in 2011 to write full time. He lives in Bangkok, Thailand with his wife Jing and son Alex. The lesson is further reinforced by using stuffed animals as the characters. Children have a natural love for that type of toy, so in some sense it improves their ability to empathize with the lost child. This is a great book for children, it is easy to read, involves characters and situations they understand and provides a valuable lesson for dealing with others. The use of "Nellie" resulted in correct timing for 42 out of 130 cases, as compared with 15 for no music and just 12 for "That's the Way (I Like It)". However, the depth of compression was found to be inadequate in most of those cases, and the use of "Nellie" was found to increase this inadequacy slightly, as compared with the use of no music (56% too shallow with "Nellie" and 47% without). [6]Summary: This book is about a sweet elephant named Ellie. Ellie lives at the zoo with the rest of her zoo friends. One day the zookeeper gathered the animals and told them that the zoo was closing, the animals were heartbroken. All of the zoo animals decided to all pitch in and help clean up the zoo to make it look nicer. Everyone seemed to be able to do something to help but Ellie. Ellie felt like everyone had a talent but her. Ellie took the zookeepers paintbrush and started painting and she made beautiful paintings all around the zoo. Word spread about what Ellie could do. People from all over the world came to have their portrait painted by Ellie. Thanks to Ellie, the zoo was open for good!

In preceding books, including “Sweet Land of Liberty,”“Land of the Pilgrims’ Pride,”“Yankee Doodle Dandy,”“From Sea to Shining Sea,”“Christmas in America,” and “Hail to the Chief,” Ellis learns about the pivotal moments that have shaped our nation. Now, in Remember the Ladies, this adorable pachyderm explores the fascinating lives of our first ladies.

Thanks for sharing your email! We've added you to our list.

The characters are adorable stuffed animals that you can tell are loved very much by their owners. My daughter loves that the penguin in the story is very similar to a stuffed penguin that she currently owns.

The zookeeper makes a difficult announcement...the zoo would be closing. To the animals, this was their home. What would happen to them? At the beginning of this story, Ellie the elephant is saddened as the zoo is closing and she is unaware of how she can help. She sees other animals assisting; however, Ellie feels as though she has no special skills. In the end, Ellie accidentally realizes her unexpected skill and helps to save the zoo. This children's book presents the story of an individual who felt as though she had no power but found her voice and her identity through painting. This story is very powerful and speaks to the importance of identity. "Ellie" could prove to be a beneficial supplemental text to encourage students to think about their own skills and abilities and how they are beneficial, as individuals, to the communities they are members of. The rhythm and tempo of this song is often used to teach people the rhythm of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). The recommended rate for CPR is 100 chest compressions per minute. A study at Coventry University compared the effectiveness of this song in maintaining this rhythm with an alternative of " That's the Way (I Like It)" and no song at all. The version used for the study was from a Little Acorns brand children's record, and was found to have a tempo of 105 beats per minute. Singing the chorus of the song twice, with a compression on each beat, results in exactly 30 compressions, which is the international standard for CPR. [6]I love Uncle Amon’s stories. There are always wonderful activities included at the end for kids to explore further. Older children should have no trouble reading these stories alone and younger children should enjoy having them read to them.
