On 2 and 3 July 2011 Biffy Clyro supported Foo Fighters in front of 130,000 fans (65,000 each night) at the Milton Keynes Bowl (National Bowl) in the U. Currently signed to 14th Floor Records, they have released nine studio albums, six of which ( Puzzle, Only Revolutions, Opposites, Ellipsis, A Celebration of Endings and The Myth of the Happily Ever After) reached the top five in the UK Albums Chart, with their sixth studio album, Opposites claiming their first UK No. Biffy Clyro performed on the Main Stage at the T in the Park, Oxegen and Reading and Leeds music festivals in 2010. Biffy Clyro built a rabid cult following early in their career, establishing themselves among the best 2000s musicians in the process. Despite its one and only hook being directly lifted from L7’s Everglade, Semi-Mental is several dozen notches above the riff-oriented FM rock pedalled by the likes of Feeder; Saturday Superhouse’s haphazard riffs and nonsensical but soaring chorus actually grow more and more affecting with each listen.

Through nothing but solid gigging and honing their craft of writing gloriously anthemic singles – when they’re not being jarring and off-key – the group forged a 20-plus-year path to becoming the UK’s least likely Reading Festival headliners. Then there’s the intensely unnerving ‘9/15ths’ – eluded to in earlier interludes – which begins with Simon Neil warning “We’re on a hell-slide/Help us/Help us”, before he’s joined by a choir of mourning mezzo-sopranos and doleful baritones, and a string section that stabs its icy fingers into your heart.Along the way, a decision was made to fuse the two records into a double album, realising a long-held band ambition. com The live feed has confirmed the involvement of frequent Biffy Clyro producer Garth Richardson, who also produced Puzzle and Only Revolutions.

Tocelebrate the release of the album, Fender have just launched a competition to win a Strat signed by the band. The Captain" was released as a single on 26 October 2009, following its first radio play on Zane Lowe's Radio 1 show on 8 September. The band also played the Download 2007, Glastonbury 2007, Reading and Leeds Festival and T in the Park for a record seventh time. but they aren't really examples of the classic biffy experimentation, the majority of which isn't pointless. We're really proud of it, really proud to make it come together during lockdown which was really tough - I know you guys all know how hard it was to film during lockdown .The doc was nominated for a Scottish BAFTA, and they won the Best Entertainment Award at the 2022 British Academy Scotland Awards! In 2018, the group released the live acoustic album MTV Unplugged: Live at Roundhouse, London, which reached number 2 on the Scottish Albums Chart and number 4 on the UK Albums Chart.

Biffy’s world is a strange one, where tales of jaggy snakes and old men selling bones on the street are the norm, where choruses are monumental and song structures devious.

With Chris Sheldon re-hired to handle production, legend has it that The Vertigo of Bliss was recorded in a single day, with the band using up the remaining studio time honing their Playstation skills. The band's second album, The Vertigo of Bliss was released on 16 June, to positive reviews which focused on the more experimental style of the album in comparison to Blackened Sky, as well as the introduction of string sections. well written review, but personally i don't understand how you can see this album as somehow making a stand against the world which sees 'mediocre as great': if anything this album is mediocre.

It’s fair to say that Biffy Clyro wore their grunge influences on their collective sleeves in their early days. The first is that the band were considering making Cliff Richard merchandise including a biro pen, thus being a Cliffy Biro that was accidentally swapped around on a drunken night out to be Biffy Clyro.

The first single "Wolves of Winter" was exclusively played as Hottest Record on Monday 21 March 2016 on Radio 1. The most noticeable difference between Puzzle and the band's previous work is the more streamlined and accessible nature of the songs, with fewer of the abrupt structure and time signature changes which characterised their early material. Three consecutive studio albums ( Opposites, Ellipsis and A Celebration of Endings) peaked at number one in the UK official albums chart. The band cite influences ranging from heavy metal bands such as Metallica and post-hardcore bands like At the Drive-In to progressive rock band Rush, while reviewers are often quick to link their sound to Nirvana and Foo Fighters – particularly in their use of shifting dynamics, which they adapted from Pixies and Fugazi.
