It’s certainly not as hideous as the Miyota 821A, which I would consider the Fiat Multipla of modern watchmaking as far as the looks go. I’m not even completely sure it was an official Seiko model, or someone just modified a previous existing Seiko with the SNXS79 dial, but I love it all the same. The reason for this is, the leather might squeeze down to the proper size, but a 20mm spring bar will not squeeze down to fit a 19mm lug width. While it does not hack or handwind, it has been known to run for decades without the need for servicing. Seiko fits the watch with the automatic in-house caliber 7S26, which you can view through the timepiece's transparent case back.

While Hardlex is tougher than an ordinary mineral crystal, have no illusions – it’ll eventually scratch. The brilliant and rich sunburst grey dial looks really dynamic and with the all polished stainless steel case, the look really comes together to create the appearance almost of that of a Rolex Oyster Perpetual homage, but with enough unique design elements to stand on its own in terms of originality. That’s how I’m able to appreciate the value proposition of the SNXS79 so much more, this time around. The thickness of the strap combined with the raw, unstitched edges makes the leather strap wear very thick and was instantly recognizable, for me, as a perfect fit. As mentioned earlier, its movement lacks the hacking and hand-winding functionalities of higher-end mechanical movements. So for a watch with a 19mm lug width, feel free to use a 20mm leather strap, as long as you have the proper, 19mm springbar.

On the applied hour marker indices and steel hands, you’ll find Seiko’s LumiBrite, which is Seiko’s new luminous material that is said to be brighter and longer lasting than conventional luminous paints. This means that straps with quick release spring bars usually are a poor choice when looking to size up. Even if the resemblance is striking, Seiko has nevertheless managed to give the SNXS79 its own unique character. But since it's a simple push/pull crown (rather than a screw-down crown), the SNXS79 is only water-resistant to 30 m (3 bar, 98 ft), and thus only protected against the occasional splash.

Seiko is also one of the world's most renowned and respected watch brands, which significantly improves its resale value if you decide to sell it in the future, but also comes with the satisfaction of ownership that you’re wearing a watch with a celebrated heritage should you choose to keep it in your collection. I don’t know if Seiko has on purpose delivered these to Europe, or was my watch some glitch in their exports, and was meant to be sold in the Middle East.

I think the brushing on the bracelet kind of looks out of place – like it doesn’t belong on this watch. It has a power reserve of 41 hours, meaning the watch will continue to operate for up to 41 hours even after you remove it or place it back in storage. But over time, like most other things about this watch, not only did they grow on me, but I began to appreciate them more and more.It houses the 7S26 caliber with 21 jewels, running at 21600 bph with an accuracy of +45/-35 seconds per day. While durable, the SNXS79K’s stainless steel bracelet can rattle when you shake it since it uses hollow end links instead of solid end links used by more expensive watches. The more expensive variants are watches with the reference number SNXS79J1, which are JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) models, produced and sold only in Japan.
