It also has kind of a mushroom tie-in, which is awesome, because as you know, I love mushrooms, and—and I never thought I’d find myself writing this sentence—mushrooms are having a major moment right now. The final 25% of any horror novel should be the best and most amazing part since you made it to what should be a climactic ending. There are horror elements, there is some very descriptive body horror, but this is more than that, it really shows the damage and selfishness of addiction. Moored in a wintry Asian harbor at the turn of the twentieth century, Captain Ulysses Vanders experiences a revelation. They are haunted by their grief, their loss, their pain, their struggle to address the worst parts of their lives.

I enjoyed all the characters in this novel as they all brought something unique to the novel, especially Erin, the main protagonist. He and his ghosts saw through the trap and he captured one of the Stormcast, bringing him to the camps of the Blessed Ones. Ghost Eaters is filled with deeply gorgeous writing that never gets in the way of itself, it only enhances the experience. In the aftermath, he asked Bakhos to teach him his way of war, to assist him in uniting the tribes under his leadership, somewhat intrigued, he agreed, giving him Chaell, the warrior he had saved as a teacher. I appreciated the creativity of the drug and all it entailed, and there were plenty horrifying moments, that I actually felt were mostly just gross, but it just lacked a little something I can't quite put my finger on at this point. I started reading this book in the evening, and once it became clear just how creepy it was going to be I made the decision to set it down and proceed in the morning.

Set in Richmond, Virginia, a city haunted by its brutal history, this modern tale of the macabre follows a group of thrill-seeking friends who discover a drug that opens a gateway to the world of ghosts. However, unbeknownst to Erin this drug has unimaginable side effects and you can’t come back from it. if I'm being exact, but Goodreads makes me fudge and the sheer impact of some of the scenes in Ghost Eaters has me feeling like this will stick with me for a while - and that's more than enough to err on the high side.

I closed my eyes, remembering where I had last tasted this liquor, remembering back across the years, remembering how steady the hand had been that held out the cup to me, and how desperate the circumstances. The blurb for this one pretty much nails the concept, so lets jump straight to what I thought - Ghost Eaters was pretty damn awesome. Unfortunately I found things getting a little drawn out about three quarters of the way through which can really suck for a slow reader like myself but I stuck it out and the ending picked right up and had my heart beating and my knuckles turning white!Just think Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas combined with a number of ghost stories, and then you're somewhat close to describing this novel. But the door to the land of the dead lets through more than just Silas—and, it turns out, it’s not so easily closed.
