It's hard to say with this type of thing when there's only one chapter available, but thus far the set up is intruiging whilst also feeling pretty familiar. The basic elevatory pitch is very similar, as many people have The powers are more like concepts they can be expanded and the only limit seems to be the user's own creativity leading to every sort of power you can think of being on display, some more typical and some downright weird and surreal. Two Guys and a Girl: Tokio, Ely, and Azuma are the three main characters who attend school together.

Mateo, Alex (February 2, 2022). "Choujin X Manga Ends Serialization in Young Jump, Continues in Tonari no Young Jump". Anime News Network. Archived from the original on February 2, 2022 . Retrieved February 2, 2022. Combo Platter Powers: Zora has a lot of unrealted Choujin powers, including Flight, iron manipulation, gravity manipulation, creating a harpe, seeing the future in her dreams and creating smoke. Vibration Manipulation: In top his Super-Scream, Mori can uses vibrations to feel the space around himself. This allows him to know everything that is happening on Beast Island. Lean and Mean: Chandra Hume, one of the major antagonists, is quite lanky and is very mean to boot. This manga is still in its early days but I think it is well worth the read, story, art, and characters are excellent, the world is thought out and full of mystery as the lore unfolds it paints a very realistic take on superhumans ( Choujin ) and how they'd live alongside us the way they would be treated, regulated and the hardships they would face.Fake-Out Opening: Chapter 1 starts off in a plane with Ely conversing about her dreams for the future with another passenger, when suddenly Chandra sets fire to everyone within the cabin. The scene then cuts away to the main protagonist, Tokio, as he's sitting in class looking up at the plane flying above. in Japanese). Shueisha. Archived from the original on November 16, 2022 . Retrieved November 17, 2022. Tokio in Full Beastification can fly as well, due to being a vulture Choujin. He later leans how to only create wings to fly even in Partial Beastification. One of my favorite scenes is towards the end of an arc in chapter 35, where Tokio is contemplating his future and struggling to decide what he wants to do with his life. In a quiet moment in an empty park near dusk, Tokio is having a conversation with Shiozaki, a character he helped in an earlier arc. While talking about aspirations, Shiozaki expresses his desire to live an ordinary life, a sentiment that Tokio initially echoes before falling silent and staring at the sky, a melancholy expression appearing as he slouches down and stares at the ground. The art style is gorgeous as usual, sketchy but not lazy. The character designs are nice; they all have a "cute" look, which I like.

Fragile Speedster: In Full Beastification form Tokio's body feels incredibly light, to the point where he has some difficulty controlling his speed at first. Unfortunately, he breaks his own arm when he punches snake-form Nari.I'm personally very excited to see Sui Ishida come out with something new again after having such a bad time with tokyo ghoul:re but, also being a fan of tg, I'll try not to be biased going into this very short review based on the first chapter. Greed: Due to his nature as a Nue Chimera who can collect other Choujin's powers, the pharmacist always wants powers. He needs to remind himself to not overindulge in it.

This might seem very reminiscent of tg to many people but so far the story has a different and more light-hearted tone than tokyo ghoul to me and even with the stories sharing similarities there are many ways to build upon this concept. Dangerous Forbidden Technique: By injuring themselves badly and then using their willpower to force themselves to live, a Choujin can get a boost in their power and regeneration abilities. The dynamic between our two mcs Tokio and Azuma is already being built up and can only get better from here on out. Having them not be on equal footing makes their friendship more interesting and leaves a lot of room for development on both sides. The story revolves around Tokio, an unmotivated kid who comfortably exists in the shadow of his talented best friend, Azuma. This all changes when circumstances result in Tokio becoming a choujin, a special being that manifests powers borne out of an individual's own insecurities andSnakes Are Sinister: Nari is a Snake Choujin who can turn herself into a serpent and she is hired by the pharmacist to capture or kill Tokio. Evil Tower of Ominousness: Throughout the series, a strange smoke-spewing tower can be seen in the middle of Yamato. It turns out to be the headquarters of Mother Zora, the series' main antagonist and the Choujin X of the previous generation. Handheld technology has advanced to the point that smartphones are cards in size and shape, much further than the real world had in 1998, and are combined with credit cards in their usage, at least in big cities. To me again, he is a very talented mangaka not just for the stories he can come up with, but also because of the many symbols he kwows how to put in the right places always. This story may even be more emotional than his last one, and I have the feeling that is going to grow bigger and better in the future.

Power-Upgrading Deformation: After being injected with the Choujin drug, Tokio takes on the form of a vulture-person, and has to hide his true face and form until learning how to shift out of it. Implicitly, this sort of thing is common to Choujin. At first I was not entirely sold on the series. The art was sublime but I was (and still am to a degree) not entirely latched onto the characters present. However since chapter 18 or so and into chapter 22 (the time I am writing this) it seems Isihida hasWith this being said, I think many people should give the story a chance, trying not to give many spoilers... the characters smeem very relatable, their friendship is the kind of relationship that I admire so much in these kind of stories, I really hope nothing bad happens to them in the future tho... but based on this very first chapter things already got... worse we could say since the first moment. I would not go so far as to say that Choujin X is a carbon copy of Tokyo Ghoul. Most of the abovementioned tropes are common in many mainstream stories, and perhaps Ishida finds these particular ones interesting. I can understand the appeal of stories that drag seemingly ordinary and innocent personalities through dark and morbid situations, especially if that character comes off as relatable. Our protagonist Tokio feels like someone with severe impostor syndrome. He looks down on himself so much that he determines his self-worth via the people that he associates with rather than from himself, which is what earned him the label of a vulture. The book does an excellent job of establishing that as both a symbol of power and a negative character trait that has the potential to be overcome. Also, I will be comparing this series a lot to Tokyo Ghoul as I feel that's where a lot of the most interesting points are in the early discussion for this series. Azuma's Choujin powers allows him to manipulate the iron chains around his wrist to create weapons or an armor.
